Disclaimer: I do not own K.
Naoko POV
She ran hard. Hard and fast. Don't let him catch you. If he catches you, he'll take you away. She didn't want to leave. She wanted to live on her own. She already had been, but all because of the court case, that freedom she desired so desperately was at risk.
"Your Honor, my client requests independent custody, on the basis that she has already been living on her own for the past 18 months."
Of course I want to remain independent, she thought. What if he turns out to be like him?
"Denied. I rule in favor of the father. Mr. Mikoto Suoh now has complete custody of Naoko Yukimura."
She ran harder, the voices could still be heard, but they didn't seem to know where she was. All she has to do is reach the hideout, and she would be home free. No supernatural father, no stepfather, no one but her and Kage.
The voices stopped. Maybe they finally gave up.
She didn't stop running, though. She was only about a kilometer from the hideout.
A few short moments later, she rounded a corner and dove straight into a dense patch of trees. If you weren't careful, you would be scratched by thorns or bit by snakes, but she knew a way around that was danger-free. It was about twenty meters of potential harm before she had passed through. This was her special place. The place where she had been living the past year and a half to avoid him.
Something could be heard thwacking against a tree trunk before a rather large blur came darting towards her. Great, big paws landed on her shoulders, nearly knocking her to the ground. Fortunately, she was used to the mutt's heavy weight. Kage was just a giant mass of fluff. The vetrinarian had said that he was probably a mix between a Caucasian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees. She had found him as a puppy about eight months ago. He couldn't have been more than a couple weeks old then, meaning that he still was not fully grown. It was kind of weird to think that, since he was already taller than her waist. Granted, that was not saying much, but still.
"Alright Mr. Floofy, have you been good while I was gone."
A deep, sharp bark was his response.
"Good boy. What do you say we go inside and you can cuddle while I read a book. Or maybe two. I really need a distraction right now."
Again, he gave a booming bark, telling her that he agrees.
The pair headed toward the immense tree that was centered at the far edge of the clearing. In that tree, a house was held. The house had never been painted, so it was simply the color of the wood it was made with. There were a few windows cut into the sides, as well as a ramp behind it. This house was her pride and joy. She had put this together as a means of escape. It had taken forever to make, as she had done it by herself, using only the time between school and supper. She would have stayed later during the process of making this small treehouse, but she feared the punishment that would have occurred had she ever been late to the evening meal.
It was not long before the pair was lying on the bed, one snoring, and the other in a world of fantasy.
A sigh was heard as the book closed, taking that magical world with it. Naoko looked outside and saw that it was pitch black. She was finally beginning to feel the exhaustion from a day full of stress. She blew out the candles that she was using as a light source, rolled over into the snoring mass of fluff and promptly fell asleep.
