Bones steadied himself, already feeling faint. It couldn't be a coincidence that the three of them got sick first at the same time. The disease was running through the ship now and the Empire would exterminate all of them before finding out how it was spreading.
"Wouldn't be the first time someone tried to take us out, huh Bones?" Kirk said. Spock just looked at Kirk, expression a neutral mask. Kirk's bodyguards stood by the door.
"We need to get the uninfected together and press them for answers," Bones said. "Have your goons, gather them up or something. I'll let you know if I find something."
Jim raised an eyebrow. "Let's not forget who's the captain here."
"It is a logical course of action," Spock pointed out.
For a moment Jim looked like he was going to sigh but he told Spock to come with him instead. "Report to me the moment you find something," he said before leaving with Spock and his bodyguards.
He wished he had more than guesses to go under. Perhaps there was a spy in the Empire, or one of Bone's medics had decided to move up the ladder, maybe Nurse Chapel had decided she finally had enough of them, one of the Jim's spurred ex-lovers. There was too much to consider.
