To Hold

Disclaimer: I do not own any recognizable characters. They belong solely to Square/Square Enix and so forth. But I'm tempted to bid it off of them, REALLY tempted. They are lucky I'm broke.

This is a one-shot of a certain scene I had been thinking about for weeks now. I hope you all like it… I guess the constructive criticism and reviews will let me know.

And again, I don't have a Beta… so all mistakes are mine. If you please pinpoint them to me so I can later fix them and all, it would be greatly appreciate it.

This is Slash/Yaoi/Shounen-ai… whatever. Boys hot for other boys kind of thing.

Oh, and it's an AU one-shot. And it's a bit of one-sided pairing of Zack/Sephiroth, and maybe just a tiny bit of OOC. But I hope not too much.

My form spoons him perfectly as we lay on the green grass. Beyond the small hill is the wide blue ocean, and above is a cloudless blue sky. He is asleep.

My head rests on top of his, while my hand goes through his silver long hair that spreads on the grassland like tendrils of silk.

His skin is too warm, and the thought of getting him indoors is first in my mind. But I don't have the heart to wake him.

I found him asleep on this outcrop. He always comes here to think, or to relax. I don't know what his obsession with the ocean is. Sometimes, he just stands there, looking toward the beyond as if expecting something to come and take him away.

He looks like a god statue while he concentrates on the water. The long hair swaying in the wind, his left hand inside his left pocket, and his right one with palms spread wide, just to feel the ocean breeze.

Sometimes, he comes here at night. And just sometimes… sometimes the moon will be shinning down upon him, creating a halo on his hair, and a shine on his pale skin. And on those times, I almost believe that Angels do exist.

His face is too beautiful to be considered manly. His frame seemed too delicate to manhandle, though it would be dangerous to tell that to his face.

Though seemingly fragile, he is anything but. Sometimes I forget how well he can defend himself. How in one minute he could go from harmless to brutal.

He doesn't trust easily. His rare smiles are often turned to the sea, but always to me.

I know he loves me more than life itself. I see it in his eyes when he looks at me. I see it in the way he always tries to protect me, though unnecessarily, even from worry. It is the same he sees in me.

But at the moment he can't see this, because he's asleep and has no idea that I've gotten here. No idea that I'm holding him like this.

And it's a good thing. Because I don't know how he would take in the sight. His best friend, even being the most treasured and loved of all, cradling him like one would cradle a lover, is the last thing that he would expect.

The End
