"It's hot," he drawled.
"What do you expect me to do about it?" she replied after a few moments.
"You have a fan, don't you?" Shikamaru answered sarcastically. "So use it."
He raised himself up onto his elbows and closed his eyes expectantly, waiting for the breeze.
Temari whacked him.
"Ow! What was that for?!" Shikamaru howled, rubbing his sore head. The pretty Sand-nin just smirked and looked up at the clouds.
"That was for being dumb enough to think I'd actually fan you. If you're so miserable in the heat, why did you insist we come and sit on this damn roof?" Temari asked, cutting her eyes over to her companion. He scowled, still rubbing his head, and laid down again (out of the reach of her fan.)
"Because I like watching the clouds, and it's cheaper than taking you to a restaurant," Shikamaru explained with a hint of a smirk. Temari huffed in irritation and smoothed some invisible wrinkles out of her long skirt.
"When the Hokage assigned you to escort me around, I think she assumed you'd feed me at some point," Temari said. Shikamaru didn't reply. The blonde girl inspected her nails, then her fan, and then smoothed her skirt yet again. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "This is a waste of time. Why are we just sitting out here?"
Lazily, Shikamaru peeked up at her. He'd been trying to nap.
"Do you have sand clogged in your ears or something? I just told you that I like watching the clouds, and it's cheaper than buying you food."
Temari growled and gracefully stood, towering over him, looking intimidating. He scowled up at her.
"You're blocking my clouds, woman."
"Nara, you have approximately five seconds to get up and take me to somewhere nice to eat."
"Approximately? What does that—"
"Time's up." She whacked him again, this time on the shoulder. Shikamaru stood, glaring hotly.
"That wasn't five seconds!"
"I said approximately. Now move it before I blow you off this roof," Temari growled. Shikamaru smirked.
"I don't think you're that talented with your mouth," he drawled suggestively. Temari's cheeks turned a vivid shade of red. She lifted her fan in a threatening manner. "Alright, alright, you troublesome woman! I'm up! I'm up! What do you want to eat?"
Temari crossed her arms in a satisfied manner and sauntered towards the stairs.
"Something nice…something I can't get in Suna," she said, glancing back at him over her shoulder.
"Hmmm…so I guess that means no sandwiches." Shikamaru deadpanned.
Temari shook her head and rolled her eyes. All the same, she cracked a small smile.
"Don't quit your day job to be a comedian," she advised. Shikamaru flashed a grin as they walked down the stairs. Temari returned it, and was even sweet enough to let him hold her hand as they ambled towards the restaurant.
