The Easy Way

Disclaimer: I think I have a novelisation some where…

Warning: implied suicide.

Daniel keeps a little bottle of pills in his office. They are small, round and white and look like the fake sugar Sam sometimes puts in her coffee. On missions he hides six of them in a zip lock bag, next to his skin, between pelvis and fabric. He takes them out sometimes, memorising them as the first step. He follows the path in his head, the one that ends in darkness and light, never letting himself reach the end. He'd tried it once, the year before college, when he didn't think he'd get there. They'd given him some pills for a year, and the scars, inside and out, had healed to almost nothing. He'd had a million regrets then, things that had seemed important at the time. If the time comes now, he'll be able to count his regrets on one hand, before letting them all fall away, like ash in the wind. The pills are for emergencies, they'll make it easier and faster, harder for the Others to stop him. Because he plans to break their rules, and there wouldn't be any going back this time.

End.

Kind of inspired by 'Prototype', because I could see Daniel figuring out how to ascend and making plans for Anubis-style situations.
