It was growing dark, but no matter the hour her overactive mind wouldn't let her sleep. There were a million thoughts running through her head, and they all focused on the man in her arms. He had almost been hung today, the sun beating down mercilessly and awaiting his fate. It was all still unreal like a bad dream. So unreal, seeing him swimming towards the Pearl and away from sudden death. He was sound asleep now, nestled safely in the one place he belonged. She could never hurt him like all the others. And she didn't care everyone said she was a fool for loving Jack so completely. He was her reason, her soul, and she loved him unconditionally.

She smiled in the dark as he snored a little and moved. He was laying resting his head against her chest, his nose upturned as he exhaled air onto the skin of her neck. They were in her bed because he claimed he just couldn't be near his quarters tonight. It broke her heart to know Jack had been so shaken by his almost certain death. She wanted in any way to assure him he was protected with her. She would move the world for him, and she couldn't imagine her life without him. He would always have her with him no matter the cost.

The next morning, Anamaria woke up first. There was an immediate rush of warmth and almost tears as she felt Jack's weight still on her. She studied him fully this time thanking the sun for the light to do so. He seemed to grow a bit smaller, after almost dying, in her eyes. The uneasy and mistrust he had expressed once back on the Pearl was clearly there. It was seen from the way he held her close, the slight frown of his eyebrows even as he slept, and even in the way his eyes shifted under his lids.
"Jack?" She whispered wanting to wake him in case his dreams disturbed him. He mumbled something she didn't catch the first time.
"What was that Jack?" She risked asking again. As she did, she moved a little trying to sit up, but he grabbed her quickly halting any further moves. She gasped but stayed still.
"Don't leave me...Anamaria stay." he said desperately and not at all like himself. She bit her lip feeling even more pity and love for him. Why did he have to be shattered so completely? Why not someone else. It made her think of her childhood and how alone she always was. She didn't have a friend in the world then...not until she meant Jack.
"I'll never leave you Jack. Go back to sleep." She said and he did. She ran a gentle hand down his face and kissed his temple. No, she would never leave him.
