Kyle could barely contain his grief at not being able to heal Nicole. The family was looking to him to make this all right. Ironically, he was the one who had caused all of this. If he hadn't been so wrapped up in thinking about his own problems, none of this would have happened. Of course, Gretchen and her baby might not be around either. Nicole had kept playing down her injuries, but he should have known that she was lying. He had been so distracted by Gretchen's screams of pain and the baby's distress that he let her stay in that car too long. She was the woman he thought of as his mother and he had just left her there. She could have died and he wouldn't have been able to do anything about it. Thank god Jessie heard their distress call and sent help. Otherwise, things would have been completely out of his ability to fix. He wasn't sure why he wasn't able to heal Nicole in the hospital; he had healed Jessie and Annie before. Maybe Nicole's injuries were just too grave. Now that Adam Baylen was dead, Kyle had no one who understood his capabilities to ask.

He desperately wanted to talk to Amanda, but as Foss said, he shouldn't be exposing any more people to his situation. His family was in enough trouble as it was. Latnok already had a bead on Amanda and he didn't want to underline her importance to him. Better to sever ties and keep her safe. That hole in his heart would remain forever. He had never felt so relieved when Nicole opened her eyes. He knew that she would be okay. Whatever the cost, he would pay it in order to keep his family together. Everything that had happened today had served to plant a seed of doubt in him. He realized that he had been relying too much on his heightened senses and abilities and he let the others as well. They had such faith in him. It was unfounded. He couldn't count on saving anyone. Maybe he needed to stop trying to be everything to everyone. Why couldn't he have saved Nicole on his own? The thought circulated mercilessly in his brain even as he injected the life-saving solution that Adam had developed. What did he do wrong?
