"Cry?" I called out in an almost inaudible whisper, "Are you awake?"

The dark figure in front of me stirred quietly, and then turned over to face me. "I am now, Pewds. What's up?" he said with a soft, raspy voice.

"I... I.. I'm..." my voice broke at the end, releasing the tears I had been fighting to hold back. They ran freely down my face onto the pillow underneath me.

"Hey, hey," Cry said as he pulled me into a comforting embrace, "It's okay Pewds, don't cry. What's wrong?"

I buried my head into his neck, trying to hide my pathetic sobs. "I'm… I'm so scared of losing you…"

Cry shifted backwards, brushing my blonde hair out of my face so he could look me in the eyes. "What makes you think I'm leaving?"

"I... I don't know. I just… I love you so much. I feel so safe with you. I never felt that way with anyone else. I can't stand the thought of being alone."

He chuckled and pressed his lips against my forehead. After a few seconds of silence, he spoke. "I'm not going anywhere, Champ. There's no way I could live without you in my life."

I smiled at my pet name and snuggled back into his chest. I felt so sheltered in his arms. I felt like as long as this man was alive, he would always be there to protect me. I knew I would never have to be alone.

"Thank you, Pookie. I don't think you understand how much you mean to me."

"Don't worry about it, friend," he whispered sleepily, "I know."
