Jack had visited this town before to meet up with his friends, but hadn't intended on living here, until his friend was murdered a few weeks ago. He had few friends as of recent, and the loss of his friend in such a tragic way was too much for him. He had moved to the town to solve the murder of his friend, and he'd do just that, even if it risked his own life. He unlocked the door to his friend's bungalow, that was small, but cozy. Some of the dry blood that had remained on the key fell off when it was pushed into the lock, and the door creaked horribly as he pushed it open. He had one more friend in this town, now a small village of fifteen with the loss of his friend, Adam. Alice, one of the only two friends he had left, lived next door. He put his bag down on the side, smiling slightly at the memories he had here.
After a couple hours of sorting out his decorations, the place was to his liking. There was only two actual rooms; the main room, which consisted of a kitchen, a single bed, a sofa and his TV. He plugged his nightlight into the plug socket by his bed, and sat down. He retrieved his wallet out of his rucksack, and put it in his pocket. He stepped out of the door, and walked over to Alice's, who had opened the door before he had the chance to knock.
"Hey, Jack! Hope the moving wasn't difficult." She said, giving him a hug before stepping back. "I was going to help, but, I thought you'd enjoy this more!" She said, grabbing a large cake from her kitchen counter and holding it out to him. He smiled, and took it from her with a gratuitous smile.
"Thank you. Before I take this back to my house, where is the store? I'm kinda running low on, well, everything." He asked, a look of curiousity on his face. She wrote a small series of directions and put them in his mouth, before stepping out of the door. He nodded with a grin on his face, and stepped back. He walked back over to his own hut in a rush, and opened the door he had forgot to lock before leaving previously. He mentally cursed himself before putting the cake on the side, and heading back out.
The few bags filled with instant noodles lined the kitchen counter, with Jack sitting in front of his TV enjoying one of them. He looked at the time, and realised it was getting a little late. He started to close all the curtains, and turn off the lights. As he closed the second curtain, he saw something dash away from the third window. He hesitated slightly before closing the second and third curtain, and turned off all the lights. He turned off the TV and threw the last bit of the instant noodles cup in the bin. He sat down on his bed and read his notebook. He had made it to the house, and so he ticked it off of his to-do list. He had nothing to go on, but he had to find out. The mystery was bound to get more twisted, and he was ready for anything.
He thought he was, anyways.
