Title: If Everyone Cared
Author: LoveSamantha
Pairing: McKay/Shepherd
Rating: PG… for now ;)
Summery: This fic got sparked when me and the other Sam was confused that Rodney never really spoke to John in the episode; "Conversion". She started this… then scratched it and I offered to finish it… not before turning it into a slasher! hehehe anyways, the first chapter is half hers and half mine, and I'm working on a second chapter now.. So please, tell me what ya'll think:)
PS; The title is from a Nickleback song with the same title, it is a song, that we think really applies to this story and the ship.
Rodney entered the room, it was very dark and John was sitting on the bed with his shoulders hunched over and staring at the blank wall.
"Uh.. Major Shepard..?" McKay called out cautiously.
Shepard turned slightly, avoiding looking at Rodney, "You shouldn't be here." He replied coldly.
Rodney took a deep breath and pressed on, "I know, look I just wanted to see… you. See how you were holding up?"
"How do you think I am? I have wraith in me and its only getting worse… I am mutating into a bug and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it!" He pulled his gaze away from the wall, and threw the papers he had in his hand at the wall but still avoided the eyes of the man opposite him.
"I'm sorry," Rodney Whispered, he sat on the edge of the bed, "I'm so sorry I am helpless to do anything. I really am. You have always got my back – always – and its my turn… But I… I… I dunno what to say." Rodney said, flustering all about.
He felt helpless, his co-worker and friend was slipping away and he felt so helpless. He took another breath in, then tried to choke back the tears, that were threatening to surface.
Feeling utterly stupid from all the emotions, Rodney Stood up, "I… um… I'll leave now…"
"Wait!" Shepherd cried out, grabbing his wrist to stop him from leaving, "Thank-you. Thanks for trying, you were a really good friend." He finally bared to look at him in the eyes, "I've been wanting to tell you something for a long time, but I just haven't had the guts to do it. But I guess in my last dying breath's the best time than ever."
He grabbed the bottom of Rodney's chin, and pulled them together in a tender kiss, that seemed to last for a lifetime.
"John..?" McKay whispered half as a groan and half as a question, staring into the other man's eyes to try and work out what had just occurred.
Shepherd, turned silently back towards the wall and slowly laid down pulling the blanket's up around him.
"Major Shepard?" he questioned again, only to get no response.
