Sister Child

By singin in the rain again

A/N: This is my first fanfic, don't hate me please.

Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling does. So there. -P

Hailey Amelia VanTegrat had grown up thinking she was normal. Sure, she knew her house had been burnt down when she was a baby and that her mother and father and supposedly her twin brother had died, but that was just another story to tell her friends. She couldn't remember anything but a green flash of light, which she generally disregarded, because really, who ever heard of a green fire. Hailey had been at her godfather's when the fire happened, but when he had been arrested a few days later Hailey went straight to the orphanage. She could barely remember what it had been like, though her imagination helped to fill out a few of the blanks. Hailey had been adopted when she was three. The only life she'd ever really known was the one she had with Mr. and Mrs. VanTegrat, an elderly but kind couple who had adopted her because they couldn't have any children of their own.

Overall Hailey had gotten along pretty well through life. She had friends at school and had a decent grade in everything but maths. When Hailey was eleven she was accepted at Hogwarts. But that's not when our story begins, no, we're going to skip a few years and commence with Hailey's sixth year.

Hailey VanTegrat stood in front of the full length mirror in her room. She pushed a strand of her auburn hair out of her hazel eyes and looked at herself again. She wasn't any different than she had been yesterday, but she had a feeling that today would bring big changes in her life. She stepped away from the mirror and turned to her trunk, satisfied that she had everything packed Hailey set to pushing her trunk down the stairs.

'Mum, I'm ready to go!' she said, heaving her trunk off the landing and starting for the door.

' Just a second, sweet, I'll be right down.' called Mrs. VanTegrat. And indeed she was downstairs sooner than Hailey could have hoped. The two got into the car and started for the station.

'Have a good year, love.' called Mrs. VanTegrat pulling into the parking lot of Kings Cross station.

'Bye, mum.' said Hailey.

When Hailey got onto the train she found a compartment that was empty and pulled out a book.

'There are seats in here.' called a boys voice. Hailey looked up to see a person who she recognized to be Harry Potter.

A/N: I know this Harry's sister thing is way over-used, but I've got a few twists planned for it.
