Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or the song We Are One.

Summary: After his grandfather's funeral Konohamaru is standing by the memorial with his Uncle, Sensei and big brother. He asks a few simple questions, and this time Naruto surprises the three standing with him with a serious answer.

We are one

The service had ended more than an hour ago, yet Naruto still stood his hand on Konohamaru's shoulder and Iruka held the crying boy. The loss of Hiruzen Sarutobi hit hard for the boy who'd previously never known true loss. His own mother having died in childbirth, and his father on a mission when he was still young, he'd been raised by the man that was now laid to rest next to the other fallen heroes of the recent invasion.

The rain had ended by the time they heard his whispered words. Asuma standing just to the right of Iruka, Naruto on the other side, and Iruka himself knelt down in order to hold the small boy to his chest.

"Why do we fight? What's the point? Why does someone always have to die, when most of the people in this village don't even care?" If they hadn't been ninja trained to listen for soft sounds they may have never heard him, his voice was so low.

"We are one." Naruto whispered, his gaze straight ahead on the picture of the man he'd come to see as his own Grandfather. "Konohamaru, listen to me closely," the child tilted his head so he could see Naruto's face.

Soft and low Naruto began to sing a tune that he'd been sung as a babe by one of the few who cared about him, an anbu soldier with a dog mask.

"As you go through life you'll see, there is so much that we don't understand. And the only thing we know is things don't always go, the way we planned. But you'll see every day that we'll never turn away, when it seems all your dreams come undone, we will stand by your side filled with hope and filled with pride. We are more than we are we are one."

"Everyone expects so much of me though, I'm the Honorable Grandson," the last words were said with more than a little distaste. "Naruto-nii-chan, if there's so much I must be, can I still just be me? The way I am? Can I trust in my own heart or am I just one part, of some big plan?"

"Even those who are gone are with us as we go on, your journey has only begun. Tears of pain, tears of joy, one thing nothing can destroy, is our pride deep inside we are one." Naruto turned his gaze down to look at Konohamaru as he finished his song. "We are one you and I, we are like the earth and sky, one family under the sun. All the wisdom to lead, all the courage that you need. You will find when you see, we are one."

Iruka let the boy slip from his grasp as Konohamaru stood up proud. "You're right Naruto-nii-chan," using his sleeve he wiped the tears from his eyes. "We are one, one big family. And the Hokage is the parent who watches out for all of us. But, now it's our turn to protect our home. I'll get strong, stronger than even you. And one day, I know I'll be able to protect all my precious people."

AN: At some point I am going to tie this one shot into a story that I have bouncing around in my head. I am looking for a beta reader for it who is willing to help keep me on track with my writing. (As I tend to have ideas but I'm too lazy to type them up unless someone harasses me about it)
The song does come from Lion King 2, and I got the idea for this fic after watching it with my Niece one day then turning right around and putting in the Naruto DVD's and I was on the invasion episodes. So yea….I like it. Constructive Criticism or compliments only please. And please let me know of any spelling and or grammar mistakes so I can correct them.
