His Lost Goddess

Collin let the heavy water beat down on him. Jimena. Jimena and Robert. Jimena and Robert. He scrubbed the shampoo into his hair with ferociousness as if to scrub out the unbidden images of his goddess with… Robert. He had even thought Robert was an okay guy. But not anymore. Not now that Jimena had chosen him.

He let out a painful grunt. He had thought he was saving himself the pain by breaking up with her first. But now, he knew that no matter what, he had lost his goddess and nothing was going to make it all right.

Finally, he turned off the spigot and stepped out of the steamy shower closet. He dried off, then wrapped a towel around his waist and stepped out into the chilly hallway. He hurried to his room, so he could get some clothes on before all the warmth that came from his shower left his body.

He flipped on the light and slammed the bedroom door behind him. Immediately, he whipped off his towel and threw it onto the bed, as he always did, then went to get clothes out of the drawer.

He looked up and froze. Jimena?! "Dang, what are you doing in here, Jimena?" He grabbed his towel and threw it around his waist. She looked at him with a shocked sort of expression. "Jimena?"

He contemplated going to her. Maybe his lost goddess had returned. But she turned and fled from the room. He jerked towards the door to follow her, but stopped. No. It would only be worse next time. He had lost his goddess. If he had ever had her at all. He sat down on the bed. It was better he didn't try to force her back.

Collin once again stripped the towel off. He threw on boxers and sweatpants then crawled into bed.

He tried to sleep, but thoughts of Jimena kept coming up. Why had she been in his room? Surely, she had to feel something for him still, right? Did she care for Robert like she had claimed she cared for him? He missed his lost goddess. He loved his lost goddess. But how could he put his heart on the line again like that? Slowly, his thoughts trailed off as he fell asleep.

No fear. The thought jolted him awake. He groaned. But, he reasoned with himself, after tonight, how could he get her back? He doubted she would ever talk to him again. What chance did he have?

He closed his eyes again. But more thoughts of Jimena kept coming to the surface of his mind, and he knew his heart wouldn't rest until his lost goddess was back in his arms. He remembered the way he had followed her, childish he knew, but it had eventually paid off. That was before she had been his, when she was still untouchable. But, if it worked then, it could work again.

Finally, with a plan in mind, he settled in to dream of his lost goddess and how the night could have been after the towel came off.
