Ginny could hearing the snickering before the girls came into view. One the Ravenclaw girls was holding something in her hands and they were all whispering among each other. It wasn't until she took a second look that she realized what they were holding. Luna's sneakers. Seeing red she stormed over to the Ravenclaw girls.

"Give those to me," she demanded holding out her hand while tapping her foot impatiently.

"Why should we?" asked the browned hair girl named Aubrey who was holding Luna's shoes tightly now. "It's just Looney Lovegood's shoes. We always steal them."

"How would you like it if someone stole your items all the time?" Ginny demanded hand still out stretched. "Or made of fun of you. Maybe called you..."

Luna, who'd been watching the scene unfold, subtly shook her head from her hiding spot. But there was an undeniable hint of a hopeful look on her face. Maybe it they saw that someone was standing up for her to the other Ravenclaws then everyone else would back off her and treat her like everyone else at Hogwarts.

"The shoes," Ginny demanded.

"Fine," snapped one of the other girl. "Aubrey give them to her."

Aubrey acting like she was going to hand Ginny the shoes ended up throwing them across the hall. With a 'let's get out of here, guys,' she and the other Ravenclaw girls were soon gone.

Walking over to the space the shoes landed, Ginny picked them up. Standing up she found herself face to face with Luna. She held out the shoes to her girlfriend.

"I think these are yours, babe," Ginny told Luna with a smile.

"Thank you, babe," Luna told Ginny taking her shoes the smile of hopefulness spreading to her eyes. Tying her shoes together she threw them over her shoulder as she took Ginny's hand. "Do you want to go on a walk near the Black Lake?"

"Sure."

Without caring what anyone would think the two girls walked hand in hand towards the doors of Hogwarts Castle to have nice spring walk near the lake. Luna smiling the whole way because someone was treating her the same as everyone else got treated. Someone was finally standing up for her. And that was the thing she'd always longed for the most.

I hope you all enjoyed Defending Luna.
