Memories of a Painfully Wonderful Occasion

My muse has returned! –does happy dance- Sorry I've been gone from FF so long, but I'm back, and here's the first chapter of the long-awaited (I'm probably flattering myself by saying that) sequel to The Pain of Memories The Promise of Future. There will be four chapters in all, and the first and last will be fairly short, while the middle two will be a flashback-dream. Without further ado, please enjoy.

Kiryoku sighed and rolled over onto her side, temporarily woken from her sleep. She felt Sasuke's arms adjust to her new position, tightening around her body and pulling her slightly closer to him. His breath on the back of her neck and his arms wrapped around her made her feel so comfortable and warm, as though he were a blanket keeping her safe from the slight chill of the autumn night. In the most conscious part of her mind, Kiry knew she had more dangerous things to worry about than chills. The Akatsuki was always watching, even now, ten years later and after countless confrontations and deaths of its members. Kiry pushed thoughts of the dangerous organization from her mind as the baby inside her stretched its limbs again.

"Always at night," She whispered to her belly. "Why can't ya sleep when I'm sleeping and be active during the day?" the baby kicked again, as if in response.

"Hmmm? Didja say somethin' Kiry?" murmured Sasuke into her ear.

"No, the baby's kickin' again" she whispered back.

"Hmmm…" Sasuke ran his hand down her side and placed it on her belly just in time to feel the baby kick once more. Kiry could almost see the smile forming on his face.

"I love you." He muttered. A smile spread over Kiry's face as well.

"I love you too." With those words Kiry shut her eyes and let herself slide back into sleep; warm and safe.

I won't even pretend to know when I'll update, but I can assure you that reviews will speed it up.
