The world is wearing mufflers. And a white blindfold.
All he can hear is his own harsh breathing and his heart labouring in his chest. The only warmth he can feel is his own life's blood seeping into the frozen earth.
He thinks he doesn't have long.
It's likely this gaping stomach wound will kill him quickly, but if not, hypothermia will finish him off.
Eyelids flutter as flakes drift down from heavy yellowed skies, catching briefly in thick lashes before melting slowly down pale stubbled cheeks – like tears.
Sam finds him by the bloody crimson flag.
Red on white.
