And I would runaway
I would runaway, yeah
I would runaway
I would runaway with you
James and Lily looked at each other before they looked over at Lucius. He was standing over a pot of boiling Irish stew.
"Lucius, I didn't really my cooking was so interesting," Lily joked weakly.
Lucius didn't answer.
James gulped, suddenly very nervous about what the blond's silence could mean for them. "Lucius?"
Lily, always the brave Gryffindor, took a step forward and rested her hand on Lucius' back. "I'll be seeing you later tonight, right?"
James didn't feel any of the usual jealousy. There situation was less than ideal, but Lily had grown to truly love Lucius, and James would rather share her than not at all. And if James was perfectly honest with himself, even he had grown fond of the other man. He enjoyed the dynamic Lucius brought to the relationship and didn't want to lose it.
"I don't know," Lucius muttered, and it was the first thing he said in ten minutes.
"Lucius," Lily gasped fearfully. "Don't walk away from us, please. Don't walk away from me," she pled.
James decided to try to help, even if it was only to get rid of the awful look in Lily's eyes. "Lucius, whatever the problem is we can fix it. Don't give up on us or what the three of us have managed to build."
Lucius turned and faced them. "How can you fix it? The Dark Lord wants me to take the mark, and my father wants me to take the mark! How can I fight them?! I'm not strong enough. I'll never be strong enough. And if I say no, the first people that will suffer are the ones I care about, and that's the two of you. I will not be the reason the two of you are killed. I'll die first."
"No!" Lily yelled.
"We won't let you die," James stated.
"We'll fight," Lily added, fierce determination blazing in her green eyes.
"You won't win," Lucius said matter-of-factly.
"Then we'll run away," James decided. "We love you, and we'll do whatever we can to keep you. Even if it means running away."
Lily nodded. "We're not going to lose you. Not now. Not ever."
Lucius' face remained impassive. "You're making a mistake."
"Who cares?" Lily asked.
"It's a mistake we'll gladly make," James confessed.
And Lucius didn't have anything he could say to argue against them.
