Slaying Dragons

Summary:

Life was just a story in a book, a book that only Draco could read and alter. Though no matter how he alters his story his ending remains the same: the dragon would always be slain by the prince. HPxDM

Chapter One: Meeting Strangers

A scarred boy will appear and bring hope to the world.

The words floated in his mind but were pushed away. Instead he turned his attention back to his toys.

The toy soldiers were all lined up in a neat row against a single dragon. Draco's small frail form hunched over them, studying the toys as only dedicated 5 year olds do. He reached out for the toys but was stopped by a cautious touch to his shoulder.

Draco blinked then slowly turned around.

Standing before him was a equally small boy wearing obnoxiously big glass and a bright red t-shirt.

"My name's Harry," the small boy said, his hand finally leaving Draco's shoulder.

"Hm," Draco responded. He wasn't supposed to talk to strangers.

"Can I play," Harry asked while reaching out to grab a toy soldier.

"Hn," he said though it was already too late. Harry was already playing with the toys and Draco could only watch on fascinated as Harry started marching the soldiers towards the dragon. He started making banging noises then knocked the toy dragon over. It flew a few feet and landed with a soft thud on the grass nearby.

Harry looked worried, but Draco just shrugged. He stood up and began walking towards it, then leaned down to pick it up. He pulled his sleeve down, stretching it just pass the edge of his thumb and began cleaning it. Harry raced over and began saying sorry but was stopped.

It was then that Draco noticed the scar and his understanding awakened. This boy would grow to be a hero, a savior and his killer.

"Why," Draco asked softly, nodding his head solemnly towards his toy dragon.

Harry blinked a few times, trying to stop the flow of his tears.

"Why what," Harry asked confused.

"Why did you start attacking the dragon," Draco responded.

"Oh," Harry said enlightened then continued on with certainty, "because it was bad."

"That makes sense," Draco said still cleaning the toy, "but how did you know that it was bad?"

Harry was silent for a moment, thinking deeply for his answer.

"Aren't all dragons evil," Harry asked in return.

"I don't know," Draco said shrugging once more, "I haven't met all dragons yet."

Draco slowed down on his cleaning before finally coming to a complete stop.

"This dragon's name is Green and he's a good dragon," Draco said bringing the dragon up to Harry's eyes.

Harry looked guilty then soon became resolute, "I'll save him then so he doesn't get hurt."

Draco smiled, he was happy though he didn't understand why. After all, he knew his fairy tales. He clutched his toy dragon in his fist.

In the end, the dragon was always killed by the prince.

However, right now the prince was just a boy. Laughing out loud, he grabbed Harry's hand and raced towards his toys.
