OC Character short – VOL 1 (Training sequence 1)

Danielle's PoV

I lean on the hilt of my rapier as I stand next to Weiss and I send her a soft smile. She smiles back, and I turn around and I walk forward. Weiss follows, and we get surrounded by a heavy wind current. Weiss turn around, planting her back firmly against mine and I watch as the summoned Beowulfs walk into the circle.

I bare my teeth with a growl and they pounce at us. I drive my rapier into the torso of one as I pull the trigger on my assault rifle, sending a load of shock rounds into another one. Weiss summons a glyph below me and I use it as a spring board to launch me into the air. I pull the trigger on Blood Shadow and I take down several Beowulfs at once. I land next to Weiss and she scoffs, "Show off" I wink at her and I say, "You love it, Weiss" The wind picks up and I say, "Here we go again" I shove a new magazine into Blood Shadow and I look at Weiss and I send her a nod.

Weiss smirks and a Beowulf jumps out from behind her. I throw my rapier at it as I pounce on Weiss, rolling us out of the way of the other Beowulfs and I run forward, jumping into a roll as I dive over their arms. I grab my rapier and I drive it into the stomach of another Beowulf and I push the barrel of my gun against another and I pull the trigger.

I jump back out of the group using Weiss' glyphs and I slide to a stop next to my best friend, my ears twitching from the cold. I don't notice the scar on my face until Weiss wipes away the blood on my cheek. I wave her off and I strap Blood Shadow to my back and I don't notice the Beowulf jumping at me until Weiss yells, "Skye! Look out!" I turn my head and the Beowulf knocks me back into the fountain. The frozen water cracks when I hit it and my eyes fly open at the coldness of the water and I see Weiss is surrounded by Beowulfs and Myrtenaster is nowhere to be seen.

I narrow my eyes and I propel myself out of the fountain and I land in front of Weiss and In my anger, fire begins circling around my palm. I hold my free hand out and fire engulfs the Beowulfs. I hold my arm with a groan and Weiss asks, "Skye?" I look at her and I say, "I'm okay, Weiss. It's just a scratch" Weiss nods although I can see in her eyes that she doesn't believe me. I turn around and I see a new group of Beowulfs surrounding us.

I look at Weiss and I say, "Weiss… When I do what I'm about to do, I need you to run over and get Myrtenaster. Okay?" Weiss nods hesitantly and I put my rapier away. The Beowulf jumps and I shove my arm in its mouth and it clamps down. I clench my eyes closed in pain and I grit my teeth. I turn my head and I yell, "Go! Now!" The pain in my voice is evident and Weiss nods and runs over to her rapier as the other Beowulfs jump on me.

I hear Weiss cry out and I look over in her direction and I see a Beowulf advancing towards her. My eyes water and I yell, "Weiss!" She looks in my direction, causing the Beowulf to swipe at her with its paw. She is sent flying back and she hits the fountain. I narrow my eyes in anger and with a burst of adrenaline, I kick the Beowulf off of me and it sends the others flying off too. I jump up and I sprint towards my childhood friend, sliding to a stop in front of her. The anger radiates off of me in waves and snarl, "Get the fuck away from her!" I slam my fist into its muzzle and I send it flying back. I jump on it, pummelling my fists into its face until it turns to dust. A Beowulf runs at me and I turn around and I grab it's arm in my hand and I flip over it, ripping the limb off. I hold my fists up in a stance and I spin my leg around. It hits the Grimm in the side and it goes flying into the group, knocking the others over. I pull out Silver Lightning and I throw fire at them.

The wind stops, and I drop to my knees. Weiss runs over, and she stops next to me and she crouches down to my level and wipes the blood off my face. I lean into her touch and she pulls me into a hug. I cough slightly, and I stutter, "I w-would hug y-you back b-but, I-I don't want t-to get blood o-on your c-clothes" A shiver runs through my body and I hear footsteps. I look up into the eyes of Weiss' older sister and Winter asks, "Why didn't you call for me to stop?" I look down and I say, "Because I know that they wouldn't stop coming in a real fight" Winter nods with a sigh and she says, "Danielle… what you did was brave but reckless" I nod, and I answer, "I know" Winter smiles and answers, "But I'm proud of you. That showed how much pain you are willing to go through to protect Weiss and I can't thank you enough for staying by her side." I let out a shaky chuckle and I say, "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else to be honest. Weiss is my best friend and I'm not ever leaving her" Weiss hugs me tighter and murmurs, "Just hug me back you dork" I wrap my arms around her and I nuzzle my head into her shoulder.

Winter rests her hand on my shoulder and says, "We will continue this discussion indoors. Come inside when you are ready" We both nod and Winter walks off. Weiss pulls away and I say, "Hey? What's the matter?" Weiss sighs and answers, "You did it again. You got hurt saving me" I rest my hand on her cheek and I say, "Weiss, look at me" She looks at me and I continue, "You are my best mate. Of course, I'm going to protect you. Winter may not be there to save you all the time, but you can be damn sure that I'm going to be there to protect you" Weiss rests her forehead against mine and asks, "What did I do to deserve a best friend like you?" I smile, and I say, "I think it's the other way around. Now, lets get inside before we both get a cold" I stand up and I hold my hand up. Weiss takes it and we walk inside.

After talking with Winter, We both walk towards our bedrooms and take a glance over at Weiss and the look in her eyes says that she wants to ask me something. I nudge her with my elbow and I say, "Okay, Weiss. Spill it" Weiss looks at me and raises a brow. I look at her and I say, "You look like you want to ask me something" Weiss sighs and answers, "Can I stay with you tonight?" I tap her nose and I say, "You don't have to ask, you know" Weiss wraps her arm around my waist and rests her head on my shoulder. I rest my arm around her shoulders and I kiss her head.

I push open the door to my room and I throw Blood Shadow and Silver Lightning on the bed. I shrug off my leather jacket and my tank top follows. I hear Weiss gasp and I turn my head and I ask, "What is it?" She swallows and answers, "Your back… it's bruised" I wince when I roll my shoulders and I say, "It's just a bruise" I look down at my stomach and I say, "However… this is not" Weiss raises a brow and I turn around, revealing the extent of the damage to my front. She gasps and a knock at the door sounds. I pick up my bloodied tank top and I pull it on. I let out a shaky breath and I say, "Come in" The door opens and Winter walks in.

I notice the bandages, antiseptic and needle and thread in her hands and she says, "Sit on the bed. I know how bad it is" I sigh, and I pull off my tank top and I sit on the bed" Winter walks over and scolds, "You idiot" I roll my eyes and I say, "I'm sorry, mom" Winter hits me on the back of the head and another knock sounds. Weiss opens it and I hear Klein on the other side of the door. Weiss lets him in and he places a tray on my dresser. I smile, and I say, "Thank you, Klein" He nods and answers, "You're welcome, Skye" I nod, and he walks out.

Winter pours some antiseptic on a cloth and points out, "This may sting a bit" I clench the bed sheets in my hands and Weiss walks over and takes my uninjured hand in hers. I grit my teeth when Winter begins wiping the blood off my body and I whimper when she swipes the cloth over the gash on my face.

Winter clenches my other hand in her free hand and squeezes. I bite my lip and I say, "Mom and Dad are gonna kill me" Winter begins stitching up my wounds and asks, "When are they coming back from Mistral?" I shrug, and I say, "In a few months, I think. I'm not sure. Uncle Carbon needed their help with some dust related issues" Weiss rests her head on my shoulder and she asks, "How is your mother?" I sigh, and I say, "I don't know. She says she's fine, but I don't think she is. She's just been working overtime this year" My scroll vibrates from my back pocket and I pull it out and I see my mom's picture on the screen.

I answer it, the screen expanding as my mother's face pops up, and I say, "Hey mom" Mom smiles and answers, "Hi sweetie. How are you?" I clench my teeth and I let out a hiss and I answer, "I'm fine mom. How's work… and Dad?" Mom sighs, while giving me a stern look and answers, "Work is good. Your father however is not doing so well. We have had just over 150 shipments get jacked by the White Fang in the last 2 months" I growl, and I ask, "Do you need me to come down there? I can be on an airship tonight" Mom chuckles and answers, "No baby. You stay in Atlas and get some rest. I can tell you've hurt yourself again. I can hear the pain in your voice and I can see it on your face" I sigh, and I answer, "I'm sorry mom… I know that I said that I would be careful" Mom hums and answers, "It's alright. It's actually pretty sweet how much you care about Weiss. You've always been protective of her. Even since you were little kids barley able to hold you're rapiers let alone swing them"

I smile, and Weiss smiles and pecks my cheek. I blush hard and Mom laughs, and she coos, "Aww look. My little baby is blushing!" Winter laughs and Weiss giggles when I blush harder. I hear a door open and I see my dad walk into the shot. I grin, and I say, "Hey Dad!" Dad looks over and he walks over and answers, "Hey sport! How are you?" I rub my neck with my free hand and I say, "I'm alright. I just got pretty messed up when training today" Dad sighs and answers, "One day, you are going to get yourself killed" I roll my eyes and I say, "Yeah, Yeah. You know how I get" Dad nods, a teasing smirk making its way onto his face as he teases, "Especially when a certain white-haired girl is involved" I groan, and a blush rises to my face again.

Weiss smiles, sticking her head in view of the camera and she says, "That's me!" Dad laughs and answers, "Hello Weiss" Weiss rests her head back on my shoulder and she replies, "Hello sir" He sends her a stern look and answers, "I hope you are taking care of my daughter" Weiss nods and answers, "Of course sir" He nods and answers, "Good. I'll give you my blessing then" Weiss raises a brow and I bring a mug of coffee to my lips and Weiss asks, "Blessing for what?" Dad smiles and answers, "For you to marry my daughter" Weiss chokes on air and I choke on my drink and I exclaim, "What?!" Dad nods and answers, "You two have been betrothed to each other since your seventh birthdays. We have been waiting for the right time to mention it"

I cough, and I say, "Dad! We're only 15!" Weiss nods and answers, "Yeah! and we don't even know if we're gay!" Winter scoffs and answers, "Oh please! The heart eyes that you two give each other makes me want to puke" Dad nods and asks, "Weiss… how do you feel when my daughter is near. How do you feel when she holds you or looks at you?" Weiss swallows and answers, "When Danielle is near… I-I feel like I have nothing to be scared of. When she holds me, I forget about everything around me and when she looks at me…. I forget how to breathe. When we touch, I feel fireworks and electricity and when she isn't near, I feel scared and worried"

Dad looks at me and asks, "and you? How do you feel?" I swallow, and I say, "I feel the same things. I always have." Mom smiles and answers, "Oh just kiss already" I look at Winter and she waves me off and answers, "Continue. You don't have to ask me" Winter takes the scroll from me after she wipes her bloody hands on a cloth and Weiss cups my jaw in her hand and pulls me into a kiss. Fireworks and bombs go off in my head and my tail swishes happily.

I hear mom and dad cheering in the background and I pull away and I rest my forehead against Weiss'. Weiss blushes hard and Winter gushes, "You two are so cute. Hey, Danielle" I look at her and Winter narrows her eyes at me, "If you hurt her, accidental or otherwise, I will personally hunt you down and kill you" She threatens. I nod quickly, and I say, "Got it" Weiss pecks my cheek and dad says, "It was lovely to see you darling, but we have to go" I nod, and I say, "Yeah. Okay" Mom and Dad say their goodbyes and Winter passes me my scroll and she says, "I'll leave you two alone. Don't do anything that I wouldn't do" I smile at her and Winter walks out.

Weiss stands up and she says, "I'm going to get my pyjamas. I'll be back" I stand up and I pull her into me and I say, "I have no problem with you using my clothes" Weiss hums as I kiss the back of her neck and she answers, "Alright. You've swayed me" I kiss the back of her head and I walk over to the wardrobe and I pull out a long t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Weiss sends me a look and I say, "Hey. Deal with it, snowflake" I give the clothes to her and I walk back over to the wardrobe and I pull out a pair of sweatpants and I begin changing. I hear a choke come from behind me and I pull on my sweatpants and I turn around. I raise a brow with an amused smile when I see Weiss has a hand clamped over her nose.

I stretch, and Weiss' face goes red in embarrassment. I walk over to her and I ask, "Are you okay?" I purposefully lower my voice a couple of octaves and she nods furiously. I take her hand away and I chuckle quietly when I see the blood gushing from her nose. Weiss averts her gaze and I use my thumb to wipe the blood away. I kiss her forehead and I hook my hands under her thighs and I pick her up.

Weiss yelps and I walk over to the bed and I place her down. I lift up the sheets and I crawl underneath, and Weiss follows. I nuzzle my nose into her hair and Weiss rests her head on my shoulder and she starts scratching my ears. I whine, and Weiss looks into my eyes, "Can you sing to me?" she asks tiredly. I raise a brow and I ask, "Sing to you? Weiss… I" She holds her hand up and answers, "Stop right there. You are an amazing singer" I blush, and I say, "I'm nowhere near as good as you" Weiss pecks my lips and asks, "Please?" I sigh, and I say, "Fine. You win" I run my hand through her hair and I ask, "What song?" Weiss hums and answers, "You choose" I poke her nose and I say, "Well, I can sing Noble Maiden Fair or Edelweiss. Two of the songs my mom taught me" Weiss yawns and answers, "Edelweiss" I kiss her head and I take a deep breath.

Weiss curls closer as she drifts off and I murmur, "I love you, my precious winter flower" Weiss smiles in her sleep and I curl my arms around her protectively and I fall asleep with my forehead pressed against hers.
