Crave

She always ate in class.

Instead of buying a hot lunch from the school,
she just liked to keep a bunch of snacks with her, and eat them sporadically throughout the day.

Usually during class.
Usually something accessible by vending machine,

Corn chips, or granola bars, or pretzel sticks…

Must not like cafeteria food.

Right now, she was absent mindedly picking apart a chocolate bar.

Her thin fingers broke the candy into smaller pieces, and every so often, she would pop a small, dark rectangle into her mouth.

He cracked a grin.

It was dead quiet.
The middle of English,
and she was too absorbed in her book, and her chocolate, to even register the fact he was, yet again, staring.

Oh…

And it seemed, not paying attention to where her mouth was, she had gotten some melted chocolate smeared on the very corner of her smile.

She was oblivious.

Completely too engrossed in her book to even notice the incredibly tantalizing, warm, brown smudge located just on the side of her slightly wet lips.

He swallowed involuntarily.

Before he could even register what the hell he was doing, or stop himself,
his right hand had reached across the aisle, and lightly grazed the inside curve of her cheek, gently wiping away the sweet, dark brown drop.

Instantly, her head snapped to the side so fast, he thought she would break her neck,
and her now insanely wide blue eyes fixed him such a shocked and disbelieving look,
that it could almost have been funny…If he weren't frozen in place, his hand an inch away from her face.

Now she was staring.
And he was staring.

They both were too stunned to move.

Slowly, and sucking in a deep breathe so he wouldn't hyperventilate, he leaned towards her and whispered so nobody else could hear;

"You've…uhhh…you've… got something… on your face."

Blushing intensely, and now refusing to meet her eyes, he angled himself to the left and leaned back, now sitting as far away from her as his seat would allow.

Still wearing that shocked expression, she closed her hand into a fist, and slowly dragged the knuckles across her mouth.

"Umm, did I get it?" she asked, a bit dumbstruck.

He nodded, chancing a glace at her, and then she gave him a hesitant, slightly awkward smile.

"Thanks."

Her voice didn't sound as shocked anymore. She actually sounded a bit relieved.

Not trusting himself to say anything more, he stared straight ahead, and nodded in response, wondering why lightning never struck you down when you wanted it to.

Something tugged on his sleeve.

Looking back to his right in disbelief, Kagome was holding out a broken off piece of her chocolate to him,
still maintaining that awkward, embarrassed, adorable little smile.

"No. really, thanks, I probably would never have even noticed…"

He took the bite-sized rectangle from her, placed it on his tongue and let it melt on the roof of his mouth,
still not able to comprehend that this was actually happening.

They were staring at each other again.

Only now, it wasn't all that awkward.

A/N: Better than eating the pizza-grease the cafeteria feeds you. yuck
