"Dad would never let us do anything like this. Thanks, Dean, this is great." Thirteen-year-old Sammy wrapped his arms around Dean's waist, head burrowing into Dean's stomach.
The unexpected weight sent warmth burbling up from within Dean. Sure, the list of things wrong in his life was monumental, but this—this was right. He lit more fireworks, torn between seeing the illegal-as-hell hand-held fireworks launch skyward, spreading glitter and dazzle into the air and seeing Sammy mouth "Wow's" of amazement at the display.
Dean watched as Sammy danced among the descending sparks, treasuring the moment, his happiness complete and unending.
