Why you might ask? The answer? Simply because I can.

.

One might wonder why she was in this godforsaken place, under the beating sun and thick smoke, all while doing the most dangerous of tasks. One might consider her a wrongfully placed angel in the jungle hell which now occupied her time.

She was a high-standing graduate of Japan's prestigious Women's University, had doctorates in medicine, medical science, biology, and humanities. She was a beauty without compare and was a kind-hearted person...which is precisely why she was out there. On the day she had received her final doctorate, she discovered a pamphlet describing the horrible situation in Somalia, and the various deathtraps that constant claimed the lives of civilians and peaceful operations.

Landmines.

Many open fields, forests, and roads were heavily mined during the various civil wars that plagued the country, a threat that continued well into the years after each war. Peacekeeping operations were continuously striving to remove the contraptions in an effort to save what lives they could.

Saving lives, it's what she was here for. Miyuki Takara, a Japanese representative helping remove the mines. Her job was simple; she would use the detector to find the mine, then plant a flag to the left of it, two inches away, to notify the removal team of its location so the device could be removed. She would move quickly and efficiently to ensure they could clean up their designated area before sundown. She had been at this for three months and it was like clockwork to her now. There would be a beep on her screen, she'd hold it over the mine, and she'd place the flag precisely two inches to the left.

She wiped sweat from her brow with her gloved hand and look up at the sky. The sun was nearing the horizon and the sky was turning orange, they'd have to move quickly before da—she screamed as a searing pain worked its way up her right side, pieces of shrapnel working into the tissues of her body. She fell to the ground and stared at the sun, she could already tell her foot was gone, and she couldn't move her arm. She reached for her radio, if she could call it in they might be able to save her... .

"Mother, it is not necessary to narrate behind me when I'm playing minesweeper." Miyuki turned to her mother. Sighing, she stood up and moved to the side. "Would you like to play?"

Yukari smiled sweetly, a youthful presence permeated from her. "Of course not, it's much more fun to watch other people get blown up."

.

Why? Actually, despite the message at the beginning, I don't really know. It's just been floating around my head for some time now.
