Mike wanted to do it, he wanted to kill the sonofabitch - luckily he managed to elicit the strength not to blow the guy's brains out which is what he so richly deserved (Mike's sleep was punctuated by Marie's horror at seeing her husband gunned down before her own eyes), now he could possibly lose his badge and the bastard could walk because he supposedly violated his "civil rights" but somehow Mike didn't care, because there was now three children left fatherless, and in his own way, he got justice for Max by seeing the scumbag beg for his life.
