Summary: Luna gives Ginny a special birthday gift.

"So," Luna says, sliding into the seat next to Ginny at the Gryffindor table, "what do you want for your birthday?"

For a moment Ginny just stares at her, stunned. Hardly anyone knows it's her birthday; even her own brothers usually forget.

"Um, I'm not really sure," she mumbles.

"Think about it. Let me know," Luna says, stands, and glides off gracefully, earning odd stares from a couple of Gryffindors.

And Ginny does think about it. Quite a lot, really. In fact, it doesn't require much thought; she knows exactly what she wants more than anything else in the world. But she won't bring it up, won't mention it. Unless, of course, Luna does. And then...well...

Several days later, just when Ginny is starting to think she won't have to worry about it, Luna corners her in the hall. "Your birthday's tomorrow," she informs Ginny. "Have you decided what you want?"

"Yes," Ginny says, making a split-second decision. "I want...you."

She almost expects Luna to ask what she means, but the blonde does no such thing. She simply blinks, stares at Ginny for a moment, and then says calmly, "All right."

Plans are set into motion, although really it takes very little planning, especially for former members of the DA. The following night they meet at the room of requirement to find the room a bit smaller than usual, containing a four-poster bed slightly larger than those found in the dormitories and draped with red and blue hangings. The room is lit only with dozens of candles, creating a soft glow.

Clothing is removed in silence; Ginny's heart is beating at double time and she is beginning to regret her request. Yes, she has wanted this for a long time, but she never wanted to force Luna into something she doesn't want, something that (it hurts just to think it) could destroy the friendship that is really only just formed.

They climb into the bed and it is better than Ginny expected, physically anyway, though she's a bit too distracted to really enjoy it. Luna is surprisingly skilled, knowing just where to touch her, just what to do, and Ginny doesn't seem to be doing too badly herself, or so the sounds she draws from the Ravenclaw's throat seem to attest.

When it is over Ginny finds herself lying on her side, her back to Luna, her skin damp with sweat. She is nearly afraid to turn around, but, knowing she must, she rolls slowly onto her back, simply knowing that she has messed everything up.

To her surprise, Luna is propped on one elbow, smiling down on her. "Well," she says as Ginny once again finds it impossible to do anything but stare in stunned silence, "I suppose that was my gift, though my birthday's not for another month. What about yours?"
