Yes he was old. Yes he was poor. Yes he was "dangerous." But younger men were usually pigs, poorer men weren't arrogant, and she liked a little danger in her life. She was, after all, a fully capable Auror! But why couldn't he see that! It was as if he was blind, blind to her love for him, even though she had made that quite clear! But he had refused, even though she saw so much pain in his eyes when doing so. So now she could only watch from afar, making her feel very awkward, and a bit like some stalker. But she couldn't help looking at Remus, sitting under a tree reading, at the Order Meetings, going for walks. It made her feel like she was staring at the Mirror of Erised, staring at, wanting for, something she could never have. It started to feel tiring, wanting it….no needing it, and she began to feel exhausted, and frustrated. In fact, though she wouldn't tell anyone this, she was starting to lose some of her Metamorphagus abilities.
There he was. Sitting outside. It was all she could do to not run out and embrace him. She loved him so much. It was eating her inside. He was reading a book, she could hardly see from there, something about transfiguring…or maybe it was…Metamorphagus? Yes, the title said, Metamorphagus' of the 20th century. And the book next to it was a text book on changing and transfiguration. In Tonks' mind, he was either looking to steal McGonagall's job, or he was trying to find out more about her, trying to connect without having to be in a romantic relationship. Well Tonks had done the same thing, she had read about werewolves, and that had got her nowhere. It was time to get action, and Tonks knew what she had to do. Start a conversation, by making him go red.
"Hey Remus," Tonks said, walking outside.
"Nymphadora," he said, not looking up.
"Don't call me Nymphadora!" Tonks said. Remus smiled. "Whatcha reading?"
"Nothing," Remus said, covering up the titles. "Just some light reading, nothing important."
"That looks like it's pretty important," Tonks said, smirking. "Lemme see."
"It's really nothing," Remus said, blushing. Tonks grabbed one of the books.
"Looks like someone wants to know more about me," she said, smiling at him. He blushed some more. "Well, I can do that myself. I'm an Auror, fully capable of danger mind you, I'm 24 years old, I'm a Metamorphagus, an only child, and hopelessly in love with a werewolf, who thinks he isn't good enough for me." Remus frowned.
"You know that we can never-"he was interrupted.
"Shhh," she said, putting a finger up to his lips. "Your turn. Tell me about you. Remus rolled his eyes.
"I'm a poor werewolf, very dangerous mind you, I'm 38, I'm unemployed, an only child, and has a crazy Metamorphagus stalking me," Remus said, smiling a bit.
"And how do you feel about this crazy Metamorphagus," Tonks asked. "Romantically, I mean.
"I think she's insane," he said. "I also think that she's beautiful, she's perfect, she's funny, and I love her. But I also know that we can never be together." He sighed, but Tonks was smiling.
"You said you loved me!" Tonks said, clapping her hands.
"I also said we could never be together," Remus pointed out.
"Says who?" Tonks asked. "I love you; you love me, simples as that." Remus sighed. Look, when someone says they love you, and you love them, do you not act upon it? Because I act upon it."
"How could you possibly-" Remus was interrupted again, by Tonks leaning over to kiss him. His eyes widened, but he didn't break away. After a few moments, Tonks pulled away.
"Like that," Tonks answered. "And if you tell me you didn't feel anything, I'm going to kiss you again and again until you do. And if you said you did feel something, I'll kiss you even more."
"I'll take the option where I get to keep being kissed," Remus smiled, and leaned into Tonks, and they kissed, again, and again and again. It was perfect.
