Rose sighed as she looked up at the crystal blue sky; she had never felt happier than when she was lying on the grass in the meadow. Almost every day since she was five she had come here, it was here place where no one could find her. She lay down feeling the warmth of the grass, the earth against her and hearing the rustle of the trees and the songs of the birds. As she stretched her fingers over the grass small purple flowers sprang up between them, it was magic. Letting out another almost mournful sigh Rose watched as clouds floated dreamily across the sky, like ripples on a vast sea. She spotted something high above moving faster than the clouds, circling, getting lower and lower. Rose sat up and as she continued to watch she realised it was an owl, she knew it would have her letter. The large barn owl landed without a sound merely a few inches from her, the letter in its beak. She reached forward and took the letter from the owl and opened it, but she already knew what it would say.

A smile spread over Rose's face, at last she was going to Hogwarts, but there was a pang of nerves in her stomach, a niggling at the back of her mind. Rose knew she wasn't like the rest of her family, you see Rose's family were pure bloods not only that but they had all be in Gryffindor for centuries they were brave and daring, they were kind and good people, they did not see muggle borns as bad and neither did Rose really. But there was something different about Rose there always had been she was more ambitious, determined and resourceful, she wanted to be somebody .Rose shook her doubts from her mind and got up to leave the meadow.

She walked through the dense trees back towards the large old farmhouse type building her family had lived in as long as she could remember. It had been left to her parents by her Grandmother. Rose ran through the beautifully tended garden to the door which lead into the kitchen.
"Mum I got my letter" called Rose as she walked through the door
"Ah good, we can go and get the books and things tomorrow, can I see the list?"Rose handed her mother the list that had come with the letter. "mmmm, the other letters came today as well, we need to get going early tomorrow." Said Rose's mum her blond hair dancing lightly in the breeze from the open window.

"MUM! what time do we have to leave tomorrow?!" called a voice from up stairs, Rose grimaced slightly as her sisters Elizabeth and Clarissa strode into the kitchen, they were twins and drove Rose barmy with all their hair swishing and eyelash batting. They looked just like their mother, long slightly curly golden blond hair.
"I don't know yet dear, early" replied their mother
"Oh good Rose got her letter" it was Peter this time, coming in from the garden, he too had curly blond hair, in fact so did everyone on in her family, her Mum, her Dad, Peter, Elizabeth, Clarissa and Jeremy, they all looked alike. Rose on the other had stuck out like a toad in a wand shop; she had wavy dark brown almost black hair with rich coffee coloured eyes and pale skin, the complete opposite of the blond haired, blue eyed, tanned appearance of the rest of the family. But Rose liked being different.
