Saving Sirius
"What do you want?" She asks quietly, staring at the boy before her.
Well not really a boy, he looked about her age and she knew she should recognize him. She just couldn't put her finger on it.
The boy nearly smiled and tilted his head, shaggy black hair hiding his eyes from view.
Hermione frowns and fights the urge to stomp her foot. "Who are you and what do you want with me?"
"Ah come on 'Mione. Don't you recognize me? I'm hurt." The boy says playfully, his deep baritone voice ringing through the darkness.
Hermione pales and her eyes widen with realization. "Sirius?" She whispers shocked, wondering if this was just a strange dream.
The boy, now identified as Sirius, grins and bows. "At your service my lady."
"But how?" Hermione asks quietly, the last thing she remembered was being with Harry and Ron and then her memory got sort of foggy. The teenage witch looks at her best friend's godfather terrified. "Am I dead?" She screeches finally.
Sirius fidgets, "Kind of, just a little."
"Just a little? How can someone be dead just a little?" Hermione demands stomping her foot angrily.
As her eyes glint dangerously with anger Sirius had to fight the urge not to cower in fear. "They can still bring you back." He points out helplessly.
Hermione sighs, her anger suddenly gone. "What about you? Why are you here?"
"Because I'm kind of dead too. My body is in the veil remember?"
"So you're stuck here?" The muggle-born witch asks, the wheels in her head beginning to spin.
"Yeah, where ever here is." He says looking up at the dark sky. "I saw Dumbledore not too long ago. He didn't stay long, said he had business to attend to."
"Doesn't surprise me." Hermione comments quietly. The young witch was chewing on her lip thoughtfully.
If you could split your soul into pieces and bind it to an item then who's to say you couldn't pull a soul into an awaiting body. Of course, Hermione muses, I'll have to find some way to pull his body from the veil or I could be stuck with him forever.
"Sirius!" Hermione yelps as her foot begins to fade. She could feel something pulling her back; it was like a yank in the bottom of her stomach. Rushing forward Hermione wraps her arms around the young Sirius.
"What are you doing?" Sirius demands confused by her sudden actions.
"Just trust me!" Hermione commands, tightening her grip as the pulling intensifies. It felt sort of like a portkey actually.
"Hermione!" Two familiar voices call out as said girl jerks suddenly. Her eyes snap open and her oxygen deprived lungs take a deep breath of cool night air.
Hermione gasps as Harry and Ron pull her into a tight hug. "Oh Merlin! We thought you were dead!"
"Can't, breathe." The witch croaks out slumping forward as both boys pull away from her.
'Oh God.' Sirius says horrified as he watches through Hermione's eyes. 'I think he's going to kiss you.' The wizard informs her as Ron leans forward.
Hermione jerks back fighting the automatic gag reflex as she is, once again, sprawled on the ground.
"Hermione?" Harry asks confused and worried by her sudden actions.
How exactly did one go about explaining the fact that she now shared her body with a man old enough to be her father and had the maturity of a four-year-old snorting sugar?
'Hey now! I'm not that bad!'
Hermione groans, she could already feel the headache coming on.
End.
