Teddy stares at his ceiling, he hasn't moved in over an hour and he's deep in thought. Victoire is pushing for marriage… again and Lily is being as rebellious as ever and threatening to run off to Romania to be with Charlie if her parents bring up the fact that she has her N.E.W.T.S. coming this year. He knows that she's just worried, she likes to play the rebel kid who just doesn't give a damn about school but she does. Her parents however don't really know this. They believe that she really doesn't care and that she's just killing time.
He sighs and rolls over onto his side. Victoire, they've been together since she was in her last year of school and he was nineteen. She's the safe choice… the one everyone has always expected him to marry. Yes, he loves her but he's not in love with her. He loves her like a friend except for the times when he just gets so fed up with her and has to leave because otherwise he'll yell back at her and that would lead to trouble because he knows Vic and she can be just as vindictive as Lily can be.
Lily… he sighs again. Crazy, flashy, out of control, devil may care Lily. Lily, whose hazel eyes can be warm and happy one moment and stormy and furious the next. His best friends, the girl that he can't have, the one he won't let himself have.
She's eleven years younger and still just learning to live…no, that's a lie, a complete lie and a half-assed excuse and Teddy knows it. Lily was born knowing how to live, how to wind people around her little finger… but still she's so, so young. Except, she isn't that young anymore, she'll be seventeen soon, very soon. That and well… Lily hasn't been young since she was fourteen when she discovered boys, short skirts, low cut shirts, high heels and alcohol… not necessarily in that order. He still loves her though and that's the problem because he isn't sure it's platonic love anymore.
He can't, no, he won't tell her though because while Victoire isn't her most favourite cousin Lily is damn protective of her family. And as he knows well the Potter and Weasley girls are a vindictive lot.
But… somehow when Lily leans into him when they hug and he always is the one to pull away first he gets the idea that maybe his feelings aren't as unrequited as he thinks.
He reaches out and grabs the ring box with the ring he had bought earlier. He turns it over in his hand. If he asks Vic then he loses Lily but, if he drops Vic then Lily will ask him why and he can't tell her and if he can't tell her than she'll leave. He can't, no won't live without Lily. Damn, he knows what he should do but there is a reason he was in Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor.
He rolls out of bed and minutes later is making dinner reservations for two at one of the most expensive restaurants he can afford. He's making the only choice he can even if he might lose the girl he loves…his best friend. He's tempted to have made the reservations at Madam Pudifoot but Vic would be furious with him. Lily would have gotten a kick out of but it isn't Lily he's making arrangements to propose to, it was Victoire who wanted perfection even when Teddy wasn't perfect. Lily didn't give a damn about perfection.
He runs a hand through his hair and sighs, he's expected to marry Vic and have 2.5 kids and a small cottage and live happily ever after. That's what's expected of him but maybe…that's not what he wants. Maybe he wants a wild and crazy life with who cares how many kids and any type of house; maybe he wants a life with Lily Potter.
He's damned if he marries Victoire and he's damned if he doesn't.
Also, thanks to for asking for another fic and favouriting me =D And to Rain Drops of Laughter for being my first reviewer of my Teddy/Lily stuff and favouriting a story.
