Never Say Goodbye

A fanfic made for Maes Hughes

"Maes Hughes - Killed in Action, and promoted two ranks for it. Brigadier General Hughes. You

were supposed to work under me, help to push me to the top. Now here you are surpassing me in

the ranks. I don't know what's more absurd - you or the State." Roy Mustang said on the afternoon

the day after Maes Hughes was shot. Who knew who killed him? Or why he had to go so soon.

Elysia woke up with a fright. It had been five years since her father died, which made her nine now. She shook her head and tried to get back to sleep, she didn't want to remember her father dying, but it was getting worse and worse each night. It was as if something was causing it to come back to her. Oh, of course. Her father's birthday, how could she have forgotten? It was only in a few more days. She knew her mother would be distraught, but tried not to cry or anything, she hardly showed her emotions anymore. Alphonse and Edward Elric would visit her a lot, but they could never get her to act like herself. She always felt it was her fault for her father dying.

No matter how much her mother told her it wasn't her fault, it never worked. She felt it was, and she was going to leave and never come back. She had to leave her mother and the Elric's a note, just so they wouldn't worry or search for her.

"Dear mom,

Don't worry about me, I am going to be okay. I am leaving to go find a way to bring Daddy back, I can't let him stay gone forever, mom. I need him back. Don't try to find me, okay? I'll be back eventually. I'll send you a letter every once and a while, just don't try and find me. Tell Al and Ed I am sorry.

Love you,

Elysia." Elysia finished writing her note and put it on her mom's desk in her room. She packed her things into a backpack and climbed out of her window and into the dark. She was crying as she ran down the road. She knew this was what she had to do, but she hated it. She wanted to find a way to bring her father back. She had only heard of it once before, but she knew it could bring him back. Human Transmutation.

She could remember what she said the day her father's funeral was. "Stop them, mommy! Daddy has to go to work, he told me! Why are they burying Daddy, Mommy? Why? Daddy, wake up!" These words were all to familiar. She continued to cry and run, she didn't want to go back, not until she had her father back in her arms again once more.
