Water and Fire

"You're hiding something."

The sun beat down, her hair shimmering glossy under it. "No," she said. "No, I'm not."

He told her not to tell anyone because it was their little secret, and... with a click of his fingers he could have her disappear. The next day all the people she knew would be wondering where that quiet, red head had gone to. Where could she be? He would know.

Words tasted sick on her tongue, they tasted like the secrets she hid under the bed and the lies she handed round like christmas cards. She couldn't even look the brown haired boy next to her in the eye because she knew – she knew – that he knew. But she was so wound up with the secrets and the lies that she couldn't break loose anymore. All she could do was wait and hope.

"There's something in the way that you talk sometimes."

She looked down, her face flushed. "I-I talk the same as I ever did," was the cracked response. Then she turned towards him and forced a smile. But his eyes, wide and blue, made her turn away.

It had been so long now and she still stuttered when she thought about him. But she thought about him more and more, he was an obsession – but that was what he had wanted.

"Words... words don't sound right."

He drove on, and she stared into the shining depths of water below her. They seemed welcoming. She leaned forward slightly before realising how stupid that was. She looked at him, "...They do." she uttered. Looking down at the reflection getting speared by waves and ripples. Her reflection was getting speared by accusations and hate.

Water was so different to him, he was more like a candle – no, a house fire. He burnt and simmered – never was he calm like the ocean. He always had to argue, be better. He always had to be the one in control.

But then, she noticed that the ocean wasn't always calm and obedient. It could be as angry as a thunderstorm or as electric as the lightning. Axel was just a stupid, stupid obsession and she didn't care if he dropped dead tomorrow.

Sometimes she wanted him to drop dead right that second so she'd be free and she could do what she wanted without the constant thought of him looming over her. She was his pet – no, toy; he, her owner.

Water was better than fire – much, much better – she decided. You could see clearly in water, she could see her reflection now and she could see that she was sick, she had a disease, a condition. What could she call it? Axelvitis. Axelria. Axelus.

No, she was just a fool, and she couldn't help but think that as she looked up at Sora as she slowly sank further and further. She closed her burning eyes and hoped that Sora wouldn't dive in after her.
