The small girl leaned casually on the wall, her white tresses pooling out from her hat as she clutched her bag. Her face a pale white as her eyes were downcast. He was walking casually down the street, the NPCs were on their usual routine, it was odd to watch them. He saw her figure in the corner of his vision, it was her, it had to be. This time it really was Kanade. He was always scolded for this, false hope lead to more disappointment.

It was Kanade, he knew it. He had spent years in the afterlife, meeting many new people and helping them come to terms with themselves, but Kanade was his one and only angel. She was humming a tune he knew well, it was Iwasawa's song.

"Wait," He pleaded, she turned to look at him.

He almost sobbed in relief, there she was, her golden irises held him in a strong grip.

"I-I mean, this must sound strange but..What song you were humming?" He murmured, scratching at the back of his neck, it had been years since he saw her, he didn't even know if she still remembered.

"I am not sure exactly," She said, her voice soft.

"Oh, sorry, must seem strange huh? Well thanks anyways," He uttered awkwardly, a stab in his chest. She didn't know him.

"Have I seen you before?"

Those words stopped in his tracks, the words echoed in his mind. "Thank you for loving me," A figure basking in light said, the only distinct feature, her white hair and piercing golden eyes.

"Do you remember me?" He asked, hope filling his voice as he felt hot tears in his eyes.

She had to, she still knew Iwasawa's song, but when he looked at her, there was something different. It left him uneasy.

"Now now, that just won't do," An sweet voice said, echoing in his mind.

He looked around wildly, his heart pounding in his ears. A woman appeared next to him, she was like Kanade, silky white hair, a small petite figure, but she had crimson eyes. It was one of her clones..but how could one be alive when the real Kanade could no longer create any more copies of herself?

"Who are you?" He demanded, his voice wavering.

"You wanted to see your dear Kanade, here she is," The woman gestured behind her as the girl with the golden eyes stepped out from behind her.

"Otonashi," Kanade murmured his name lovingly before, reaching out towards him, "Save...me."

"Kanade!" He shouted, desperately trying to reach her but with every step she was two more away. "What do you want with her? Let her go!"

"Sorry Otonashi, but Kanade.." The woman reaches over towards the girl, the glint of the hand sonic making his heart stop. "Is dead."

The girl with once pure white hair, was now stained with blood, her glassy golden eyes holding now life. He did what any rational person would. He screamed.

Once upon a time, he loved a girl with golden eyes...

Once upon a time, he lost his only love to herself...
