Hello! I know a lot of people have done zombie fics, but I love the idea, so I'm going to do it my way. The first chapter's short because it's the prologue. Enjoy!
PROLOGUE
The clock overhead ticked a few times. It was the only sound in the otherwise silent room. The only light was from the moon, streaming in through the barricaded windows. A sob sounded out in the darkness.
"It's okay. I promise," said a man's voice. His tall body was pressed against the smaller body of a young woman. Finn Hudson kissed Rachel Berry's forehead. "I promise."
The two teenagers were hidden in the science lab, every entrance save the door blocked door could only be opened from the inside, so it was nothing to be alarmed about.
"They should have been back by now, Finn," replied the woman quietly, wiping the tears from her eyes. "What if they-"
"You can't think like that, Rachel. They're fine. They're probably just trying to find more weapons." Finn stretched his legs out as Rachel nodded.
Both of them jumped as someone pounded on the door. A familiar face swam into view in the small window. Rachel jumped up and opened the door. Four people filed into the room; two boys and two girls. The tan boy had his arms wrapped around the tall brunette girl. The other man stared off into space, and the blonde girl had tears rolling down her face.
Finn stood quickly. "What happened? Where are the others?"
"The library," Kitty answered. She sniffled. "We had to leave them."
"They-they got my mom," said Marley. Her voice was muffled because her face was pressed into Jake's strong shoulder.
Finn and Rachel looked at each other. Normally, Kitty would have made a joke about them being full after eating Marley's mom, but it wouldn't be right. The world was ending, after all.
Kitty came to stand behind Marley and wrapped her small-but-toned arms around the other girl and Jake.
Puck sighed. "Guess we chose the worst possible time to visit, huh, Berry?"
Despite the fact that everything was going to hell, Rachel couldn't help but laugh. The others joined in, even Marley. The taller brunette looked around, still smiling. "My mom always said laughter was the best medicine."
It really was. Laughing made them all feel a bit better about everything. About Marley's mom. About being separated from their friends. About the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.
