This is my first story so go easy on me :)

Autumn Moonlight

I stood in front of the entrance to the cave, shivering as the cold wind whipped across my face, filling me with even more doubt and anxiety. I slowly inched my way into the cave, carefully avoiding the pools of water at my feet. I froze instantly as a strange sound came to my ears. I quickly slid to the wall of cave getting ready to run when I realised the sound was music.

I had never heard this type of music before. It wafted through air, filling the space around me with the sounds of summer and the light breeze tugging at the branches of the trees. As the music filled my brain it seemed to make my fears disappear, leaving me with a feeling of peace.

Before I could stop it, I was walking further into the cave, searching for the source of the hypnotic music. As I slowly made my way around a corner I realised I wasn't the only one in the cave. It was a girl, she was tall with pale skin and deep red eyes. She spun so gracefully around the cave floor, it frightened me. Her long brown hair spun as freely as she did and as she twirled, the water that surrounded her gently lapped up against her ankles in untainted timing with her dancing.

The music had changed swiftly into a sort of lullaby, getting slower and slower till it finally stopped altogether. The girl performed one more pirouette before sitting delicately on the cave floor. The water was now flat and docile. As the girl sat with her eye's closed I noticed that there was water on her cheek, she was crying. I was suddenly overcome with the need to help her, to comfort her, to tell her that everything was going to be O.K. As I walked towards her, her head instantly whipped up and she was now looking at me, this time, while I looked at her I saw not the beautiful child I saw before but something more like a monster. She hissed menacingly at me, and swiftly moved so that she was now crouching on her feet. Her face showed the emotion of pure hatred but as I stared at her I could still see a faint trace of despair, somewhere deep in her eyes. Her lips slowly pulled up over her, teeth as she let out another hiss, showing me her extremely pointy teeth. Nothing could stop me from running now, not even that amazing music I had heard before.

As I ran I couldn't stop myself from feeling a bit of hope as the cave exit loomed closer. I could hear the girl behind me; feel her cold breath on my neck. The exit was so close; I was only a few steps away when something went horribly wrong, I was no longer running but falling.

Irony flooded my mind, I was so close yet so far. As she hovered over me the faint trace of despair in her eyes I had seen before was now much more obvious, closed my eyes hoping it would end quickly.

As she slowly bent down to my neck, I heard her whisper in my ear:

"I'm so sorry, but this is what has to happen"

As I felt her cool teeth against my neck, one last thought went through my mind,
this was the end.

Everything went silent. The only thing I could hear was the frantic pounding of my heart, Thump, Thump, Thump.

Suddenly everything went blindingly clear as a horrible pain erupted from my body. It started at my chest and swiftly spread to my arms and legs. I screamed as a terrifying darkness crept up on me, smothering me.

My scream turned into a gurgle as an unimaginable weight pressed against my stomach.

The pain had increased and it now felt as if my limbs were being pulled apart, one by one.

I gasped as I relised that I could hear something. It was the music! The same music that had was enchanted me was the now last thing that I would ever.

With a final cry, the world as I had once know it, disappeared into the darkness.
