Serena Campbell had just pulled her car onto her drive. Seeing that her partners car was already on the drive made her smile. Grabbing her handbag from the seat next to her leaving her pile of paper work in the car not wanting to deal with the issues that Guy Self had caused from his sudden shock resignation and fall out from it. She walked up the garden path and opened the front door and was met by a kiss on the check. She replied "Sorry I'm latter home than planned. Ric wanted to fill me in on something that happened. But enough about me. How was your day?"
He replied "Long, board meeting and meeting after meeting. Anyway diner is almost ready. Marconi Cheese. Anyway it must of been important for Ric to call you back in from the pub and plus I will only find out through the medical grape vine."
They then moved into the kitchen while she was getting out a bottle of wine and glasses dinner was being dished up and both sat down in the lounge. The quietness was broken by Serena asking "In your professional medical opinion would you recommend for me to apply for the position as CEO of Holby City Hospital?"
The answer was "Yes I would. Before you say anything. They were wrong not to give it to when I left. You have experience of being my right hand women. Eleanor not an issue this time as she is loving life at university. You get on much better with the staff now as they see you as someone they can trust. What there not to want with the job?"
Serena answered "Thanks for the trust. Firstly, this super-centre we have just won all ready hit the rocks, Jac is on 6 months to a year leave and Johnny left so all ready two staff members down. Secondly there is Guy Self who does not trust me and have not seen eye to eye with since he has been at Holby and made my life hell. Then there is the beloved mess that the ED and war with staff down there and feel that nobody listens to , just as one murder charge disappears another one pops up with the clinical lead being arrested for murder in the hospital in full view of everyone including the local press. Plus I like coming home to you on an evening without paper work and spending time with you. But have you got any advice on how to deal with the mess of the ED?"
The reply "Remind me who is running the ED as I know Dr Hanna and she gets well with everybody."
Serena said "No Dr Hanna was forced out the position by lack of support from Guy which and personally hired Connie Beauchamp. She has made her feeling know to Guy by pushing him up against a wall in full view of the ED last night. What was with the look of shock when I mentioned Connie? "
He answered "I don't understand why of all places she picks the ED her skill set is better off somewhere else and not in Holby City. No wonder Dr Hanna felt she had lack of support, when Connie wants something she will do anything to get it and I mean anything. Her parting words to me was a load of insults. No wonder there is a staffing war. So what I recommend is to appoint Dr Hanna as acting clinical lead and offer her support suspend Connie until the murder charge is dealt with and show you face in the ED tomorrow to explain what is happening. But the ED have copped with a lot worse so don't worry."
By the time he had finished talking Serena had almost fallen asleep against his side and she said "Just apply for the job. You miss the hospital and not happy in your current one. I'm not going for it. Only so many times you can be knocked back. Plus Guy Self taken away my confidence. Anyway I'm off to bed. Long day tomorrow." So they both got up while he took the washing up out Serene headed off to bed. Knowing that within a the week Henrik Hansen would once again be CEO of Hobly City Hospital and so could slowly rebuild the professional confidence back in Serena.
