"I wish we were home," Bucky sighed as he kicked an enemy in the throat.

"Me too, I wish we were curled up on the couch," Steve answered as she shot at a group of enemies.

"Honestly I-"

"Buck, look out!"

Bucky ducked as a bullet came at him from the side.

"That was close." He turned to look at Steve.

Steve was clutching his chest while gasping for air.

"Steve, oh my god," Bucky ran towards him and caught his as he fell. Lowering him slowly to the ground.

Bucky started to yell over the comms, "Steve's down! I need backup!"

He looked back at the man in his arms, slowly bleeding out, "it's ok, you're going to be ok."

"B-Bucky, I'm sorry."

"No no no no no no, Steve don't say that, you're going to be ok," Bucky promised as he leant down and kissed him on the forehead.

Nat, Clint and Tony appeared behind Bucky after taking out the last of the enemies.

"Help is on it's way," Tony said, "just hold on a little longer Steve."

Steve gestured for Bucky to come closer. When Steve deemed he was close enough he started to speak ever so softly.

"I'm sorry."

"It's ok, you're going to be ok, just hold on, I love you, please don't leave me.l

"I love you James," he spoke even softer.

He took his last breath and all the light faded from his eyes and his body went limp.

"Steve! Steve!" Bucky called out knowing he couldn't hear him.

Bucky felt his heart becoming heavy in his chest. He leant down gripping Steve body.

"Steve please, don't do this! Steve!"

He didn't even try to hide the fact he was crying. He cried loudly. Nat kneeled down to comfort him.

"I'm sorry Steve."

"Bucky it's-"

"It's all my fault, it's my fault this happened to him. If I didn't dodge that damn bullet he'd still be here! It should've been me!"

The paramedics along with Nick Fury and Maria showed up.

"What happened, who's hurt?" Fury asked as he jumped out if the vehicle.

Clint slowly gestured to Bucky on the floor crying over Steve's body, "you guys were too late. He's gone."

"Barnes step away from him."

"No! I can't."

"Barnes, that is an order."

"I don't care," he went back to muttering to Steve's body, "I'm so sorry Stevie it should've been me I'm so sorry."

A man grabbed Bucky from behind and started to pull him away. He kicked trying to push off of the man. Tears rolling down his cheeks, drenching his uniform.

"Let me go," he cried, "p-please please, let this be a dream please."

The man pulling him stopped walking and pulled Bucky up so he was standing. Bucky turned to see it was Sam. He instantly threw his arms around him and started weeping even louder.

"I'm so sorry I let this happen to him."

"It's ok," Sam whispered with a shaky voice, "it's ok."

It's all just a blur now. We can't change the past, but we can choose our future. I know Steve wouldn't of wanted to go any other way. He died doing what he loves with who he loves. I don't really remember what happened after Sam comforted me, but I'm glad he did. I didn't know what I would've done if I had to look at his body any longer.

Everyday I miss him more and more, wishing I could be with him. I've tried to get to where he is multiple times. Either Nat or Sam have stopped me. I'm glad they did. It doesn't matter what happens now. He's gone and I can't bring him back. No matter what I say or do, nothing will change what happened.

Even when I try to be strong, I think of him. All the time. His last words will forever haunt me.

I love you James.
