KHII Spoilers ahoy!
I seem to be churning out all this spoiler-based stuff lately… Bit of an odd one, but I wanted to try something based on Roxas, only from after his merge with Sora…
Melancholy Memories
He could feel himself fading, his own consciousness ebbing away, but Roxas didn't want to let go just yet. It was strange, to see his Twilight Town through eyes that weren't his, to have no control over where he went or what he did. It was like he was a spectator, and his host was completely unaware of his presence. And would probably always remain that way…
Seeing the world of Twilight Town again through Sora, when he had thought he had left it behind upon remerging back with him, left Roxas with a growing sadness. To see his friends once more, but being unable to speak to them himself, only served to add to that. Was this what Namine had meant when she had told him that he wasn't going to disappear?
He knew now, that this world, his previous life within Twilight Town, had been nothing but a lie based on false memories. He had remembered, perhaps too late, his life before that… But it didn't change the way that he felt as Sora prepared to leave Twilight Town behind. His life there may not have been real, but it had felt it. Both his time within the Order, and his life that he had lived within this world were equally true to him. He couldn't just forget the time that he had spent there, and he didn't want to say goodbye to it either.
When Sora was ready to board the train, Roxas felt nothing but reluctance, but he was powerless to do anything to stop him. Unable to say goodbye to those that he had cared about, instead having to watch as Sora bid his friends farewell instead… There was no way for him to reach out to them, no way for him to ask them if they remembered him, if he had been as real to them, as they had to him.
The single tear that ran down Sora's face surprised Roxas as much as it did Sora.
His tear. And he knew that it was his sadness that Sora was briefly feeling.
It may not have been much, but Roxas was satisfied. Now, maybe he could finally let go. He allowed himself to dissolve, just that little more. A consciousness buried within another consciousness. But he was still aware, he was still watching…
Maybe there would be a way for him to still meet Sora somehow, after all.
Notes: Hm, I kinda wondered what it would be like for Roxas after seeing that scene of Sora leaving TT… As for the last line – Riku mentions to Sora somewhere around the final area that he believed Roxas wanted to see Sora. We're not exactly told what that little fight is all about at the start of TWTNW, but I think it was Roxas' own little way of getting to meet Sora. (As well as probably testing him.)
I'm toying with other random ideas for little one-shots/drabbles, but I'll eh, get back to working on TDK and BTC now. ;)
