AN: i wrote this way back when the started publishing in the States so it's obviously AE. i love the thought of Clow being their biological father so i ran with it.
The rational side of him kept telling him it was ridiculous, he was just avoiding the inevitable.
From the moment he'd laid eyes on that dark hair he knew. Touya's overprotectiveness was burning strong and she wasn't even here yet.
Seven years.
He'd learned a lot about her by the time she was born; that adorable smile, her spunky attitude, and a heart as kind and open as her mother's. She was going to be so much like her… even though they'd never get to know each other.
He'd have to make sure she knew…
Since the day she was concieved, he'd find himself staring at the ruins. He couldn't see it all yet, but he knew she was connected to them, almost a part of them. He just wished he knew…
"Father! Father hurry, she's coming!"
But that was before he'd looked into those green-tinted eyes.
It was all there in her eyes – the pain, confusion, the sorrow – and he couldn't do a thing to help her, protect her. The tears welled up before he knew it, but she did something that surprised even him.
She giggled.
Looking at that tiny smile, he couldn't help smiling back. She was telling him something important.
Kissing her cheek, he'd whispered, "I believe in you, my little flower bud."
Ever since that day, he couldn't bring himself to look at them. He had a kingdom to run, two children to raise and a sick wife to tend to.
Loosing his beloved gave him one positive – Touya would become a good king. Touya's devotion to his mother and his sister was heartwarming.
His strength was commendable.
Finding him just inside their bedroom one night, fighting to keep the tears back broke his heart.
He was honored to share his tears with him.
Then the inevitable happened.
That boy showed up.
The feelings Fujitaka-san had for him were genuine, so he kept it to himself.
The children didn't surprise him. Dear Sakura saw his pain and heard his loneliness; he knew she would help him. Even though he wasn't… he knew Syaoran would help her where he couldn't. Touya saw that something wasn't right, but there was nothing they could do. Touya just had to get used to hating the one who would take his sister away.
But he couldn't help wondering…
Even now, watching her sleep, the ruins outside her balcony, he wished he could be there. To protect her, help her… stop it from happening…
She rolled to him and he smiled through his pain. "I still believe in you, my little flower," he whispered with one last kiss before he left the room.
He could feel it drawing closer as he slowly closed her door. Turning to the one across the hall, he smiled wistfully, "Be strong for each other." He ran his hand down Touya's door, "I'll watch over her, my boy. And you too."
He gave one final sigh before heading to bed.
