Snow and James turned and clung to each other as the purple cloud of smoke overcame them. "Don't leave me," Snow whispered.
James gripped her tighter, "Never," he said firmly and placed a kiss on her lips.
Snow closed her eyes as the fog came on top of them. The moment it overtook them, Snow's head was full of her worst nightmares.
There was James lying on the ground in a pool of blood, dead. Snow kneeled next to him. "No, James!" she screamed shaking with sobs. "JAMES! You-you can't be dead! We just found each other!" she sobbed and fell on top of his body. "Come back to me…" Snow kissed his ice cold lips in hope that true love's kiss would bring him back. Nothing happened. She put her head close to his heart, no heartbeat…
"It's too late," a woman's voice said behind her.
Snow sat up and turned around to face Emma. Or what she assumed was Emma. Snow held out her hand to her daughter, "Emma?" she whispered.
But this wasn't her Emma, the Emma she'd gotten to know as "Mary Margaret." This Emma was much…darker, almost as if she'd been placed under a spell by Regina or Rumpelstiltskin. This Emma was just like Snow when she'd taken the potion to make her forget Charming.
Emma scowled at Snow. "It's your fault you know. You're the reason he's dead," she accused.
Snow gasped, "Emma what are you talking about?"
"Regina was trying to kill you. David stopped her Mary; he stepped in front of you and lost his life. It's your fault," she repeated. "If you wouldn't have let him step in front of you, he'd be alive. You should be dead," she spat. Emma turned around and disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
Snow shook her head, this wasn't happening! "No…no, no, no!" she screamed. James couldn't be dead! Her Prince Charming wasn't supposed to die. They were supposed to go back to their realm, have more children, and have lives… "No…" she moaned softly into James' shirt.
Behind her, a version of Regina appeared holding an apple. "Hello Snow," she said coldly.
Snow sat up and looked at Regina. "What do you want?"
Regina smirked, "I came to apologize for murdering your husband of course," she said with complete sarcasm and laughed manically. "Actually Snow darling," she spat causing Snow to cringe. "I came to make a deal with you. One let will let you join your dead husband."
"And why would I ever make another deal with you?" Snow demanded, holding back tears.
"Because if you don't," she snapped her fingers and another version of Emma, a more vulnerable, yet courageous and brave, slowly walked forward, her head held high. "I'll just kill Miss Swan instead."
Snow felt a tear fall down her face as Emma walked to Regina's side. Regina pulled a small dagger from her pocket, using the hand that didn't contain the apple, and held it to Emma's throat. "No!" Snow screamed. "I'll do anything! Just don't harm Emma!"
"Mom, it's okay," Emma told her calmly. "Don't let her take you, Henry needs you. More than he'll probably ever need me…"
"Emma don't say that! Henry loves you so much! He needs his mother. Sweetie, I love you so much, never ever forget that," she whispered. Snow turned her attention back to Regina, "What do I need to do?"
Regina put the dagger in her pocket and held the apple up smirking. "Eat this."
Snow stiffened. No, not another apple. But she had no choice, Emma needed to live. "I eat this and Emma lives?" she clarified.
"Mom no!" Emma screamed.
Regina nodded and dropped the apple next to Snow. "The choice is yours," she muttered and turned to go, dragging a sobbing Emma with her.
"Then congratulations…you've won…" Snow mumbled and picked up the apple to take a bite of it.
"Snow!" a man's voice shouted. "Snow please don't be dead! Come back to me…"
Snow dropped the apple and looked around. "Charming?" she whispered. She felt the pressure of his lips against hers, could feel the warmth, but couldn't see him. She touched her lips and closed her eyes, wanting to cry.
"Please…" the voice whispered again.
Snow's eyelids fluttered open, "Charming!" she breathed looking up at James.
"Snow…" he whispered and kissed her forehead. "You're alive! I thought-I thought you'd died!"
Snow gave a shaky laugh as James helped her stand up, "For a second I thought I was. James what happened to me?"
"When the cloud came over us, you collapsed. Snow, I-I think someone brought magic to Storybrooke, and not the good kind," he said calmly.
Snow gave him a questioning look, "If magic is back, why aren't we back in our realm?"
"I don't know. We need to re-gather the old war council-"
"No," Snow said bluntly.
"Snow, Regina has her magic back, Rumplestiltskin as well. We know Regina will do everything to kill us and we have no clue whose side the imp is on," James tried to reason.
"Charming!" Snow said sternly. "There will be time for war council meetings later. I for one want to see my daughter and grandson," she told him.
Tears came to James' eyes. "Emma, she broke the curse. Snow she found us!" he exclaimed. James picked Snow up and spun her around, crashing his lips against hers once more.
Snow laughed happily, "Of course she did Charming! She's our daughter after all. She takes after us, always finding each other."
James chuckled and set Snow down, taking his hand in hers and intertwining their fingers. "Let's go meet our not-so-little girl then."
Snow smiled as they walked hand-in-hand down the street. "Charming was I the only one that, you know, fainted?"
"I'm not sure Snow. I know I didn't but we can worry about that later. Let's focus on finding Emma. Where do you think she is?"
Snow stopped cold in her tracks, "Hospital."
James put his hands on her arms trying to comfort her, "Snow why would Emma be at the hospital?" he asked in confusion.
"Henry. He-he ate an apple turnover Regina had given to Emma. Regina must have used the same apple in it she used on me...He's in a coma. I think his heart stopped though...we need to see if he's alright!" she practically shouted. Snow realized she was shaking uncontrollably tears streaming down her face.
James pulled her into his arms and kissed the tears off her cheeks, "Shhhhh it's going to be okay. Henry will be fine dear. He's strong just like you and Emma. Come on honey," he said softly and gently took her hand again leading her towards the hospital.
Emma looked down at Henry who was still clinging to her tightly, "Henry?" she said softly.
"Mom, what was that?" Henry asked shaking.
"I don't know kid, I don't know..." Emma told him shaking her head. She saw two lone tears trail down his face. She quickly wiped them away, "But hey, whatever it was Henry. We'll get through it together, I promise."
Henry smiled and wrapped his arms around Emma's waist again. "I love you mom."
Emma kissed the top of his head, "I love you too Kid." They stayed like this for awhile, just cherishing the moment they had together.
Henry looked up and smiled, "Emma, you broke the curse, so that means your parents, they remember!"
Emma froze. My parents... Mary Margaret Blanch-no Snow White. And David-Prince Charming. All my life, I've created this lie about how they didn't want me, or, when I was younger, that they just needed enough money and then they would find me.
When all this time, I've been living in the same town as them. Under the same roof as my mother. And my father...as David I had treated him horribly. All this time I've been talking to my father...
Henry touched his mother's arm gently, "Emma?"
"Wha-oh sorry Henry...I was just thinking," she said giving him a weak smile.
Henry stood up and took her hand, "Come on! Let's go find grandma and grandpa!"
Emma chuckled a little at those words as she tried to imagine Mary Margaret and David as grandparents. "Alright, alright I'm coming kid!" she said laughing as Henry practically dragged her to the elevator.
James and Snow walked up the hospital entrance as people began to exit, that glazed look they used to have in their eyes gone. James pushed his way through the crowd still holding tightly to Snow's hand. They finally got through the doors to the hospital.
Emma and Henry slowly walked out of the elevator. "Where do you think they are kid?"
Henry sighed, "I don't know, let's ask The Blue Fairy if she's seen them."
"Alright," Emma complied. "Wait who?"
Henry rolled his eyes, "Oh sorry, Mother Superior," he teased and pointed towards the woman formerly known as "Mother Superior".
Emma stuck her tongue out at her son, "Yeah same thing. C'mon kid." Henry took her hand once again and they started to walk towards her.
"Your Highnesses," The Blue Fairy said walking up to Snow and James.
"Oh please, how many times must I insist you call us Snow and James?" Snow asked teasingly, embracing her.
The Blue Fairy laughed, "It's good to have your back Your Highness. Now I assume you're here about Princess Emma and young Prince Henry?"
Snow nodded as she pulled away from the embrace. "Yes, is Henry-is he alive?"
The Blue Fairy looked behind Snow and James and smiled, "Why don't you see for yourselves." She pointed behind them at Henry and Emma who were walking towards her.
Snow and James turned around slowly. Snow put her hand to her mouth stopping herself from screaming Emma's name. Tears ran down her face silently. James squeezed Snow's shoulder. Tears at the brim of his eyes. "You ready?"
Snow took a shaky breath, "No, but I don't think there's a better time than now."
James kissed her cheek, "Shall we?" he asked holding his hand out.
Snow smiled and took his hand once more, "We shall."
"Emma wait," Henry said slowing to a stop. "Who's that talking to The Blue Fairy?"
Emma looked at the happy couple talking to The Blue Fairy. It was them...her parents. "We'll find out," she told him smiling. Emma pulled him along. She saw her parents turn around and see her. Watched her mother begin to cry.
They started to walk towards her and Henry while Emma and Henry walked towards them. Emma stopped right before they would've crashed into each other. "Mom?" she asked in shock.
Okay so I'm assuming you guys are wondering what the whole thing in italics was when Snow was passed out. We don't know what exactly happened when the magic came to Storybrooke and seeing as how it's all our imagination right now I had this crazy thought that the magic caused Snow to faint and her head was filled with her worst nightmare's. Which was Charming dying, Emma hating her, and Regina threatening to kill Emma. Hope that cleared things up!
So there you have it! Chapter 1 of Right There Where We Left It All Behind, our season 2. Oncer's up next so you guys are in for a treat, believe me I've read it and it is FANTASTIC! No joke. So please press that beautiful blue button and review with your thoughts?
