Description: Takes place after "Time of Dying" Dean thinks about John's last words.
Genre: Angst and Drama
"Dean...did dad say anything to you before he died?" Sam knew something was odd about the way his older brother was acting. Sure, he had always gotten along with their dad better then Sam had, but the older Winchester was still abnormally quiet.
"No." lied Dean. Sam frowned. He knew something was up. But he also knew Dean wasn't going to say any more, at least not yet. So he decided it was best to let it go for now.
Dean watched the flames, unsure what he should be feeling. Angry was an understatement when it came to his feelings towards the thing that had killed John. And of course he was guilty. It was his fault John sold his soul to a demon. But, he still wasn't sure what to think about his last words. The truth was, his father /had/ said something before he died. Not "It'll be ok" or "Goodbye" or even "I love you." No. What he said was unbearable for Dean to even think about. And there was no way he'd EVER tell Sam.
After all, who could tell their baby brother his father's last words were "Protect Sammy, Dean. But if you can't, you'll have to kill him."
