First time writing (finally) for this fandom. Please point out if there are, uh, glitches in it. Thank you for reading this.

"You suck at art," Akira said.

Takumi could only sheepishly laugh and say, "It's not really my thing."

Akira harrumphed and went back to her masterpiece.

They were friends, and nothing more than that because as far as Takumi was concerned, Akira was his quirky pretty boy of a roommate. And as far as Akira was concerned, Takumi was the wimpy, sickly, but overly kind guy who had an amusing sort of sis-con.

Akira wasn't a girl and Takumi wasn't a love interest.

It was only to be expected that Shiho would be dealt with by Mai and that Mai, in turn, would be consumed by the power that burned inside of her.

Takumi never knew what had happened and Akira wasn't all too intent in sharing what information she had. Besides, she knew that he would probably be better off not knowing anything at all. He'd be devastated to hear that his sister had been swimming in a river of depression and he never even knew.

At the most, they were friends, and friends didn't make their friends feel like shit.

She pursed her lips as she made her way to where the Obsidian Lord was.

Takumi was a strong person. She doubted that losing one more wouldn't make that much of a difference. She doubted that anything could be worse than losing one's sister.

They were friends, really. Just friends.

And family came before friends. It just so happened that her family wanted her to join something as dangerous as this festival.

Even if Takumi treated her better than any relative she had.

She let out the breath she had been holding. It was time for her turn.

When Takumi was all alone in the world, he wondered what went wrong. He wondered if he'd managed to skip some part of life that no one ever told him about.

He wondered if feeling empty was just like this.

And then he cried. He cried and cried and cried until his poor body couldn't take the tears that tore through his body. He was a boy and, he briefly remembered, boys weren't supposed to cry. When he remembered that this was the sort of thing Akira would say, he cried some more.

He didn't know if he did that just to see if Akira would come out of nowhere like he always did and tell him to suck it up like a man.

That never happened.
