Short and sweet. Enjoy!

Are you, are you, coming to the tree?

Where dead men called out,

For his love to flee.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be.

If we met at midnight,

In the hanging tree.

"Come with us."

"Don't be ridiculous."

"I'm not being ridiculous, you're just being a stubborn Capitol Bitch."

Effie Trinket shot Haymitch Abernathy with a firm glare and folded her arms, "Language." She clucked her tongue. He was being bloody ridiculous. Expecting her to just up and leave with him to go to some district that was supposed to be extinct, and live underground, too! It was preposterous.

"Effs," Haymitch softened, stooping down in front of her. "Effs, you're not safe here. No one is. Something big is going to happen and we really shouldn't be around when it does. You may think they won't harm you, but they will. You're one of the closest things to Peeta and Katniss. You're one of the closest things to me-" That made her look at him, her blue eyes filled with fear. "If you're here, by yourself, they will use you to punish us. I can assure you."

"But I have my whole life here-"

"And I'm pretty god damn sure all the clown crap will still be here when everything's over." He nodded, grabbing her hand. "Effie, please."

She looked down to their entwined hands and frowned. Haymitch had never begged for anything from her in the entire time she had known him, granted, they did hate each other more often than not. So, seeing him beg for her life completely terrified her. "And I will be safe?" She whispered.

"You will be safe." Coin was a fierce woman when it came to people of the Capitol, but without Effie then there was no Mockingjay. Only the escort could prepare Katniss, and it was only this escort that Katniss and Peeta would trust. "I promise, you will have your own compartment, unless... Y'know, you want to bunk up with me."

She looked up at him, brow raised at his playful grin, "How improper." She smiled, though and slid one of her hands to cup his cheek. "How do you know something big is going to happen?"

"Beetees plan." He nodded to the TV screen. It showed Katniss and Jo hiking down towards the beach. "Now, we don't know how this will go down, but we need to vanish. Now. So, are you coming with me? Effie, are you going to run away with me?"

The escort licked her pink lips, "Can I have some reassurance? I mean, this is all so fast. Do I have time to pack a bag? What about my wigs, oh goodness."

Haymitch sighed and shut her up with a firm kiss. His stubble scratched her smooth skin, but she didn't stop him, instead she melted into the kiss. It was their first and it wasn't tender, it wasn't in a romantic setting either. He may of just been doing this to entice her, he did after all know about her silly little crush on him, (she insisted it was just that) but it was bloody working.

Her arms came up to wrap around his shoulders, one hand at the back of his neck, deepening the kiss with her tongue. She almost smirked against his mouth at the sound he made from the contact. It made her stomach knots fall apart at once.

He growled and pulled back from her quickly. Trust her to want to go deeper the moment they had no damn time to. "Later," He promised, nudging her nose with his own. "We have to go. Now."

The black out told her why.

Are you, are you, coming to the tree?

Where I told you to run,

So we'd both be free.

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be.

If we met at midnight,

In the hanging tree.
