Flickering Shadows

He saw the shadows in his dreams, whether he was sleeping, or awake. The thoughts floated around in his mind, and it hurt. Every time he saw them together, it felt as though his heart was being split open, as though the dark, mindless shaped that haunted him somehow came from his shattered heart.

He tried to ignore them, really, he did. He tried to smile and laugh as much a possible, but as time went on; he just became stoic and cold, unmoving and hard. Lines appeared on his face, not from laughing, but from the lack of it. His eyes, once so bright and full of life and possible love to give slowly empties, an effort to protect and salvage what remained of a once vivacious person.

"Are you okay?" He had heard the questions enough since the shadows first started haunting him. Their words only portrayed the sense of worry that they had for him, but his cold demeanor wouldn't break. It contained him, protecting him from any more hurt, but at the same time, the wall it forced around him was too big and great for anyone to climb over.

"Yes. Why do you ask?" He always answered the question the same, without any emotion clouding his words.

When he walked into them having a discussion one day, he found out how worried they were.

"He's really out of it…"

"I'm very concerned…"

"Seiichi, what do you think we should do? You're one of his best friends."

That was the worst question anyone could've asked, because it was that very person - and his new boyfriend, Kirihara - that was making Sanada's mind become overwrought with shadows.

"I don't think there's anything we can do. We can't help anyone unless they want to be helped, and it's clear to me that…"

As Sanada slowly walked away from the words of his people who used to be his friends, he knew what Yukimura said was true. He didn't want help. He didn't need help. AS long as he was protected from the people around him, he was safe. As long as no one knew him, he would be safe. Because if no one knew him, how would anyone know how to hurt him?

So, tell me what you think. I haven't written anything in a while… and you know you want to press that pretty purple button…
