HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES

Set 32 years after 5x11...

"Dad?" Klaus looked up from where he stood leaning over a table studying the new grimoires he'd had brought to him by his minions to look at the twelve year old boy who'd just come into the room.

"Taking a break from your studies, Kellan?" Klaus smirked and the boy wandered over to him and glanced at the grimoires before facing him.

"Will you tell me about Mum?" Kellan queried curiously surprising Klaus as the boy didn't often bring her up anymore.

"Anything you want to know." Klaus agreed instantly.

"How did you meet her?" Kellan began and Klaus sighed with a smile.

"She was dying of a werewolf bite. I'd seen her before but I didn't truly meet her until she was verging on death lying in her bed." Klaus remembered.

"And you saved her?" Kellan smiled.

"I did." Klaus agreed. "But to be fair, it was my fault she was bitten." Klaus conceded and Kellan shot him an amused look.

"Your whole 'kill first, ask questions later' approach really isn't always in your best interest, is it?" Kellan teased and Klaus laughed.

"You're blunt like your mother." Klaus pointed out amused and Kellan smiled, liking the idea that he was like her.

"You're never going to accept that she's gone, are you?" Kellan realised in a gentle tone and Klaus put his hand on his boy's shoulder.

"I waited over a thousand years to break my curse, son, I would wait forever for your mother." Klaus acknowledged sincerely. "I made her a promise once and I intend to keep it." Klaus reminded him and Kellan smiled, having heard the promise before.

"Then let me help you, Dad." Kellan bid and Klaus gave him a dimpled smile.

"You're a product of us, Kell. You get your intelligence, control, attention to detail and inability to allow failure from her." Klaus detailed fondly. "You get your patience, your longing for family and drive to do whatever is necessary from me." Klaus said with a proud smile. "I could think of nobody better to help me bring her back." He pointed out like it was obvious. "Together we can do anything." He smiled as did the boy.

"Do you think she knows?" Kellan pondered curiously and Klaus felt a tug at his heart at the boy's innocent expression.

"Of course. She will never leave you, Kellan. I would bet my life on it. She will watch over you until the day we find a way to be a family again. There's nothing strong enough to stop your mother from watching you grow up. Not even death or the devil himself. She loves you more than everything put together. The six years she got to spend with you were the best of her life and mine." Klaus assured him.

"Mummy, if you're listening, Daddy and I are going to find a way to bring you back." Kellan said to the room. "However long it takes." He promised and Klaus smiled at him fondly.

"That's my boy." Klaus teased and Kellan chuckled and nudged him.

"You're so embarrassing, Dad." Kellan quipped and Klaus rolled his eyes at the attitude that was starting to develop gradually.

"Can't believe you're going to be a teenager soon." Klaus muttered. "Caroline better get back quickly to help me manage you." Klaus said dryly and Kellan flashed him a cheeky smile.

"Suppose we better get reading then." Kellan smirked and Klaus returned it then handed him a grimoire…
