A/N: My firstCastle story and how else could I possibly begin other than to address the massive elephant in the room that is "Watershed"? Well here his my take on not so much what I think will happen as what I think should happen. I typed this on my iPhone so apologies in advance if there are any problems. I edited as best I could but something might heave slipped through.

Kate Beckett was silent for a long, introspective moment. Had she heard him correctly? Had Richard Castle just asked her to marry him?

Looking down into the hopeful face of the man she loved as he held the ring in his outstretched palm there could be no doubt that he had.

She had to say something. She could tell that every heartbeat that passed while she remained silent was killing him. She smiled softly and cupped his outstretched hand in both of hers, careful not to touch the beautiful ring, not yet.

"I turned down the job in DC," she began. Though she loved him and in her heart always pictured herself one day marrying him, she could not accept his proposal until she had put to rest his fears. If the proposal was still waiting when she had satisfied that condition...

He looked surprised "You turned it down," he stopped short of asking if it was because of him. If it was his angry words earlier that had made her give up this opertunity he would pocket the ring and walk away, no matter how much he loved her. He would never be able to live with himself if that were the case.

Her smile broadened even as her grip on his hand tightened, fearful that he might pull away before she had said her peace. "I worked hard to get where I am, to build a life for myself here. Everything I want is in New York. Yes working for the AG would be an amazing opportunity but it means starting over. My friends are here, my Dad is here and," she leaned forward and kissed him "You are here. DC can't give me anything close to that."

She finally released his hand and they stared into each other's eyes for a long time, each finding love, understanding and peace of mind reflected there in.

Rick took a deep breath "You haven't answered my question."

Kate grinned, her nagging doubts having been silenced for the moment. He still wanted to marry her and it hadn't just been some desperate gesture of his brought on by fear.

She leaned in and kissed him again with more force this time "What do you think?" She asked, grinning from ear to ear.

Rick tried not to look too excited as his mind processed what was happening. She would be staying in New York, and now... "I wanna hear you say it," he returned with a grin that rivaled hers.

She didn't hesitate one second longer "Yes, Castle. I will marry you."
