Disclaimer: I do not own Fire Emblem.

A/N: This is a poem detailing an unspoken conversation between Ephraim and Lyon during the final battle. The italics are Lyon and the bold is Ephraim. Also, I know Ephraim doesn't use knives but...well, it rhymes.

In the beginning of our story,

I felt as hopeless then as I do today.

I thought you'd never love me

And certainly not the same way.

I didn't know I felt for you.

But from the first brush of your lips

To the last strike of my lance,

I knew I loved you, too.

Try as I might, I can't understand

How we came to this place.

From man to man, hand in hand,

To head to head and face to face.

The hate in your eyes breaks me

Like I've lost a piece of my heart.

How did it come to this?

How can this truly be?

My mouth betrays my heart,

My words betray my feelings!

That's the evil being's part

In these wicked ploys and dealings.

Your tongue stings like a whip,

But I must believe it lies.

If I believe your hateful words,

I might just lose my grip.

The part of me that remains

Is the part that stays with you.

Please, dear, break the chains;

Free the soul that is still true.

I must bring myself to end your life,

Though I know it's yours no more.

As I watch the blade pierce your heart,

I, too, can feel the knife.
