Remember

Summary: Dick remembers his little brothers Jason Todd and then Damian Wayne. Wally watches him and is there for Dick when he needs him. The song used in this fic is 'Ronan' by Taylor Swift. BirdFlash/Freshness is hinted.

Note: Italicized text is part of the song.

Disclaimer: I do not own Young Justice or the song 'Ronan'. They belong to DC Comics and Taylor Swift respectively.

Ronan

I remember your blue eyes looking into mine
Like we had our own secret club
I remember you dancing before bed time
Then jumping on me, waking me up

Dick remembered, oh how he remembered them. Jason's cackles after his first night as Robin. His Boy Wonder. Jay's smug smile as he took down his first Gotham villain. Dick had been jealous when Jason first became Robin, but as time went on, Jay became his little brother, his precious little brother, his little Jay-bird, his- Dick choked back a sob. Tears streamed down the first Boy Wonders face, Dick's blue eyes scrunched shut as tried to stop. And then Joker came along and broke Jay's wings. Dick's beloved little brother spiraled down into the abyss. And Jason left. Just like nearly everyone else in Dick Grayson's pitiful life.

I can still feel you hold my hand, little man
And even the moment I knew
You fought it hard like an army guy
Remember I leaned in and whispered to you

Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

Excruciating pain filled his heart as though he was being torn apart from the inside. As though someone ripped his heart out...and then he saw red, Dick was angry. The first Robin, no- the Nightwing lost it. He ignored M'gann's attempts to calm his mind, Wally trying to console him. The team faded away, blood pounded at his ears. Nothing mattered other than destroying the Joker. Nothing. Mattered. When he woke up again, he was in the Watchtower Med bay restrained to the bed. He'd nearly beaten the Joker to death. And Nightwing's only justification was that Joker had killed someone Nightwing had loved dearly and therefore paid the price.

I remember the drive home
When the blind hope turned to crying and screaming "Why?"
Flowers pile up in the worst way, no one knows what to say
About a beautiful boy who died

And it's about to be Halloween
You could be anything you wanted if you were still here
I remember the last day when I kissed your face
And whispered in your ear

Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here

Dick remembered gathering the broken, bloody body of his brother. Holding Jason as the last of the light died. The last breath escaped him, putting Jason out of his misery. And once more, the Batman was left without his Robin. Wails escaped Nightwing-no-Dick's lips. Heart wrenching screams echoed on the walls of mount Justice. A holographic image of the second Robin towered in front of the leader of Young Justice. Dick extended his arms as if trying to grab Jason for a hug before patrol like he always did. Tears slid down his face, blurring the ex-Boy Wonder's vision.

Out of this curtained room in this hospital grey, we'll just disappear
Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

The Team watched Nightwing curl himself into a fetal position. Wally looked on solemn silence washed over his features. Blue Beetle, Wondergirl, Robin, Beast Boy and Impulse stood behind the original team. Wally steeled himself and walked over to Dick. He gently wrapped his arms around the shaking vigilante. An anguished cry ripped through Nightwing's body and the Team winced. They should be there comforting Dick but somehow they couldn't bring themselves to do so.

What if I'm standing in your closet trying to talk to you?
What if I kept the hand-me-downs you won't grow into?
And what if I really thought some miracle would see us through?
What if the miracle was even getting one moment with you?

Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here
Come on baby with me, we're gonna fly away from here
You were my best four years

Dick had loved Jason and no power of heaven, earth or beyond could ever change that. So the team let Dick cry. After all today was the anniversary of Jason's death.

I remember your bare feet down the hallway
I love you to the moon and back
