Love bingo prompt: Jealously

She knew when her son had a nightmare. Chip didn't scream or come crying to her room. No matter how many times she told that it was okay to wake up if he was afraid. Maybe, it dates back to a time when she couldn't comfort him. That thought always broke her heart.

So instead Chip would color or build interesting things out of his blocks. She chuckled at the memory of him building a knight robot riding a space ship. As he grew older, it turned from building to cooking.

She was lucky that he didn't burn down the house with his experiments in the kitchen.

When the house awoke the next morning, the wonderful (mostly) smell of breakfast would fill the air. That is how she knew. She would roll down to see her son's pale face and sleepless eyes.

Sometimes, he would tell her what his nightmares were about. Most often than not, she would just hug him.

More often than now, the nightmares would become few and far between.

Until now….

Now, Chip doesn't seem to be sleeping at all. She checked to the dates to make sure that wasn't the cause. No…that wasn't it. It hasn't escaped anyone noticed. The little ones seemed to clinging to him as if their presence would make everything alright. Karl had tried talking him but nothing. His dear wife…bless her for trying.

Since she knew if Chip wasn't going to give her any answers….then she knew who to turn too. There was a part of her jealous of the fact that her own son wouldn't turn to her for comfort. Quickly, she berated herself for such thoughts. She has been a teenager. Tell your parents what was wrong wasn't cool. It could be embarrassing. She thought that she didn't have to worry about that with Chip.

She thought that they were close.

Of course, she couldn't always compete with the girlfriend.

She dialed the number and waited for her the answer.

"Vida." She said.

"Mrs. Thorn. What is wrong? Is there something wrong with Chip?" Vida said.

"You can say that….He hasn't been sleeping. I was curious if you knew why."

For a moment, Vida didn't answer. She heard a sigh over the phone.

"He looked a little tired at work but he seemed his regular bouncy self. Do you think that he has been sneaking Mountain Dew again?"

She chuckled softly.

"No…we banned it from the house."

"Oh…good. I will talk to him, okay?"

"Thank you," She said in relief.

"Oh, Mrs. Thorn. It has nothing to do with you, okay?"

For a moment, she was confused.

"What?"

"Chip has been under a lot of stress with his archery training."

She frowned for a moment. She met Mr. Daggeron and seemed to be a nice gentleman.

"Should I go and talk to Mr. Daggeron?" She asked.

"No…no…no…Let me talk to Chip first then if that doesn't work, you can talk to Mr. Daggeron."

"Okay…Thank you, Vida."

"It isn't a problem, Mrs. Thorn. Talk to you later…bye."

"Good-bye," She said as the line went dead.

That evening when Chip came home, he sunk to the ground and hugged her. He didn't say anything to her. The only thing she could do was hug him close.

"Chip…are you okay?" She said softly into his ear.

"It is okay, mom. It is okay…" He said.

Her throat tightened up with emotion as she continued to stroke his hair.

It was the only comfort that she could offer him.

It would have to be enough.
