Today is a big day, Rose Lalonde thought as she sat in front of the mirror in her room, straightening her hair. I can't wait to see John and Jade again. She sighed a little bit. John Egbert and Jade Harley had both gone on vacation over summer, so she and Dave Strider (Rose's half-brother, by marriage of her mom and his 'older brother') hadn't been able to see the two. The four of them were best friends and had been since middle school. Rose had always been the one to keep them all together, despite teenage drama and dumb fights.
After finishing straightening her hair, Rose turned off the straightener and set it down. She glanced at the time. Why is it so quiet? She thought. Dave should be up by now and trudging to the shower. She opened up a drawer and pulled out a small tube of pitch black lipstick, and started to apply it to her lips, ensuring that it looked perfect. Once she finished with that, she put the tube back up and wiped excess off of the edges of her lips.
The blonde flinched as she heard a scream down the hallway of her larger-than-average house. She jumped up and ran to the hall. "Roxy, was that you?" She shouted.
"Nah, sis, I'm right here. Come on, lets go check on Dave," Roxy said as she ran down the hall to Dave's room. Rose followed behind her quickly. Roxy was Rose's older, biological sister, who would usually be drunk right around this time. Rose figured that she hadn't set an alarm the previous night.
The two sisters ran to their half-brother, Dave's room. Roxy took the lead, being the older one. That kind of made Rose roll her eyes a little bit, seeing as Roxy wasn't as mature as she should be, but she didn't complain. "Dave, are you okay?" Roxy said as she turned the light on.
When the two girls saw what happened, the older sister busted out laughing in an uncontrollable manner. Dave was in the corner of his bed, soaking wet and holding his blanket. Dirk was holding a bucket that had a little bit of water left in it. He was laughing at Dave. "Wow, bro, I can't believe you screamed like a girl that time!"
"Shut up, Dirk! That shit's not cool!" Dave said, glaring at Dirk. He grabbed his shades off of the nightstand and put them on, sighing frustratedly.
"Dude, it's not my fault you didn't get out of bed when your alarm went off." Dirk responded, handing Dave a towel.
"O.M.G., Strider, that was the best shit EVER!" Roxy snickered as she gave Dirk a high-five. "You gotta teach me how to be all sneaky and shit like that so I can prank Rosie over there sometime!"
"Not before I prank you first, Roxy. Being friends with John has it's advantages." Rose smirked. "Anyway, Dave, you should get ready for school. It's almost time to leave, and I don't think you want to ride the bus again." the blonde said as she walked out of her brothers room. Dave grumbled something, then got up and walked to the bathroom.
Making her way back to her room, the younger Lalonde thought about how she should write about that in her journal. She shut the door behind her and made her way to her closet. She picked out her new outfit that she had just bought a week prior. It was a black shirt with a lavender skull on the front and a black skirt to match. With her lavender sash to accompany the two pieces around her waist, it almost looked like she was wearing a dress. For shoes, she wore a pair of black and white converse.
Rose gave a satisfied smirk as she looked at her outfit in the mirror. She grabbed her backpack and journal. She proceeded to the kitchen to grab something for breakfast while Dave was getting dressed.
"Hm... What do we even have that's good to eat... Poptarts? Nah, no good flavors. Toast? ...Too bland. Cereal? Yeah, I guess that's as good as it'll get." Rose sighed as she pulled out a box of cereal. She got out a bowl and some milk. As she poured the cereal into a bowl, she realized that the 'cereal' was actually cat food. Cat food that Roxy had mistakenly put into the cereal box. Somehow. Nobody knows how Roxy manages to do things.
Rose sighed. "Maybe I'll just wait until I get to school for breakfast..." She said as she put the milk up and put the box back up. She made sure to label it, saying "Cat food – Do not eat. Unless you like it, then go right on ahead."
The Lalonde walked outside to her car and put her backpack and journal into the trunk. Opening up the door, she put the key in the ignition to get the heat going a little bit, since it was chilly out. She waited for Dave while listening to some music by Pierce the Veil. "Better get it in now, since asshat will probably change it to his shit rap music." she complained.
It took Dave about fifteen minutes for Dave to come out to the car and throw his stuff into the trunk. Rose watched him as he got into the car and immediately switch the music.
"Yo Rose, you ready to hear this song that Dirk and I made yesterday?" Dave said as he got ready to play the song.
"Oh God," Rose sighed. "I suppose I have no choice in the matter."
"Sweet. Take a listen to these sick beats," he smiled as he pressed play.
Rose grimaced at the horrid noise that emitted from her cars speakers. The music's beat was okay, but the Strider's voices were both horribly autotuned. Neither of them could rap very well. Rose didn't complain though, since they enjoyed doing it. Just like how they didn't complain about her knitting at least 5 scarves a week. It was a fair trade, she thought.
"That's very nice, Dave," she nearly shouted over the music. She started to back out of the driveway, waving to Roxy who was standing at the doorway, getting ready to lock the door back. "But I can barely hear myself think. Please turn the volume down."
The Strider boy glared at Rose for a second, then turned the music down to a suitable level. He sighed as Rose smiled.
She drove down the road on the route they would usually take to school. "So, are you ready for the first day of our junior year?" Rose asked him.
He shook his head. "Not a chance. I'm pretty sure I got shitty teachers again this year. I'm looking forward to my club, though."
"Oh? A club, huh? What is it, the 'Nerds of Skaia High?' You and John can run it together." Rose said with a snicker.
"Hey, not cool! John doesn't want anything to do with a sick beats club. If anything, he'd be the one to run a nerd club."
"Yeah, can't deny that."
The two got to school after around ten minutes. Rose pulled into the student car lot, parked the car, turned off the ignition, and got out. She opened the trunk and got her backpack and journal out. Dave got his stuff out and shut the trunk. Rose locked the car and the siblings started to walk to the school.
"So, are you excited to see John and Jade?" Rose asked.
"Well duh, we didn't hang out all summer." the younger boy said, glancing at Rose. "I mean, it's not like I've missed them..."
"...But, you've missed them." Rose said, cutting him off.
"Okay, fine, yeah. Maybe a little bit."
"But you've missed Jade the most!"
Dave looked at Rose, about to say something snarky, but he ran into a lamp post and lost his balance, falling on the ground. The Lalonde started laughing at how dorky he was. "Come on, Dave, it's obvious that you like her."
"Oh my god Rose will you shut up and help me up already?"
Rose chuckled and extended her hand to help the boy up. The duo continued walking into the school, making their way to the cafeteria to meet up with John and Jade. Rose couldn't help but smile in excitement to see her best friends.
