Rose sat next to the sleeping time lord, stroking his chocolate like curls as he restlessly slept mumbling in his native language that the Tardis could not translate. He had tears glittering on his cheeks as he mumbled quickly in the beautiful language he never spoke otherwise. Soon the mumbles turned into sobs that shocked the girl.
The Tardis could only make out a few words in which she was left to figure out what he was dreaming about. Words like 'no' and 'Susan' were spoke often in the native tongue.
The sobbing continued in the small room which broke her heart, "fragile" he called it, called most of the human race. She knew not to take the insults personally because hell, if her whole species burned and it was her, she would be the same. This was the first time she had seen him in such a fragile state and it made her afraid.
"Roseā¦." he gasped out in between sobs a number of times, making her stomach flip. He went back to speaking in tongue just like nothing had happened, but it still hung in the air like molasses.
His whimpers and mumbles continued as she debated whether to wake him up or not. Her decision was cut short when her name was spoken once again and she was met with watery brown eyes. The room was held in a lasting tension that engulfed her and made her heart skip a few beats.
He looked frightened, almost like he was about to scream or start sobbing again. "It was just a dream, Doctor, you're okay." She said, trying to console the frightened man she could only describe as cute in that moment.
He wiped his eyes and groaned, suddenly realizing the situation. "I was crying, wasn't I? He said in a dull tone. She nodded and smiled sadly, happy that his nightmare was covered his face with his arms, face glowing with embarrassment, clearly annoyed with himself. "Sorry you had to see me like that." He apologised, feeling guilty for making the girl worry and see him in such a fragile state. She gently pride away his arms from his face and kissed his forehead, causing him to smile slightly, blush now visible. God, he loved her.
