A/N: just a short story for me to try to get out of my writers block!
A small breeze of chilled air from outside flew its way into a small apartment through a window causing a small flame on a candle to slightly wither and a blonde to shiver.
The flame was not as vibrant as it was when the small light became to be. The blonde had lightened the melting candle what seemed ages ago, but in truth, only twenty minutes have passed since it was lit. The candle's wax had started to spill onto a chocolate cupcake that was below the candle because of its age. This has caused the blonde to sigh knowing that from her time just idly staring at the baked treat and it's somewhat fancy icing was ruined from the candle that stood upon it.
The blonde exhaled as she knew it was her role as the birthday girl to blow out the small flame on the candle, it wasn't the air's job to do that.
Lifting her head that was cradled in her bent arms, the girl who was coming of age started the traditional birthday custom, "Happy birthday to me..." The blonde whispered to herself in a sing-song voice, "Happy birthday to me… happy birthday, dear me… happy birthday…"
And with those quiet words, the blonde closed her eyes and blew out the candle, "If these birthday wishes really do come true, then please, please grant me my wish of seeing him, my wish of seeing them."
"I just miss them all, especially him. But, is it wrong that I do? I just… I just don't know… It feels like it has been forever since I have seen Natsu's smile, the one where he smiled with his whole being; eyes slightly squinted and filled with light, lips stretched wide and open showing off his sharp teeth, his head tilted but only a small bit," whispered Lucy as she lifted her arms so that her elbows were on the small table she is stationed at and that her cheeks leaned onto the palms of her hands.
"Is it weird that I thought he would show up? I thought that he wouldn't miss my birthday, I thought that maybe during the first birthday I would spend being a 'Fairy Tail mage', he would be here with me, wishing me to 'have a happy birthday', but he isn't here doing any of those things. What I thought would happen was wrong," came soft mumbles from the just-turned eighteen-year-old.
Tears had now started to well inside the woman's eyes as she continued whispering to herself her thoughts, "I-I just thought…"
"I-I g-guess, w-well, I… that I w-was, I a-am usually w-wrong, s-so… I-I was wrong when… when I thought A-Aquari- Aquarius would a-always stay by my s-side….. And n-now, I-I was wrong w-hen I thought N-Natsu would come to s-see m-me…" The sadness that was in Lucy's stuttering voice was as clear as the crystal clear salty tears that fell from her now watery eyes.
"I g-guess the l-luck I-I'm s-supposed to h-have d-doesn't work w-with my h-hopes."
